Chanel Rouge Coco No. 22 Paris Lip Swatch

I couldn’t wait. I had to dig right into my Chanel Rouge Coco lipstick today and although detractors might say that red lipsticks should be kept for the night, I say bring it on whatever the time of day!

Yesterday’s swatches were a little dark so I took it out into natural light today (and its still a little dark ) and I give you a lip swatch of Chanel Rouge Coco Paris (I know you’re looking out for this one Yani!).

The lip swatch was done with just 1 swipe of Rouge Coco Paris straight from the tube. Yes its crazy pigmented and I love it! Its blue-based and to my rather discerning eye, not fuchsia at all. On me, its a straight red. It also lasts and does not slip around plus it feels weightless on my lips, does not dry out my lips, does not bleed and feather and has no scent. Everything one can look for in a lipstick I want more and I know I will get more once it gets here.

I actually wore this to work with a simple Parisian inspired FOTD as you see below

Shu Uemura UV Underbase Mousse SPF30 PA+++ – new and improved

The UV Underbase mousse is one of Shu Uemura’s “Famous Five” and one of their most iconic products. So when a brand chooses to revamp one of their star products, you better jolly well hope they come up smelling roses.

Happily Shu Uemura does

What makes it different from its precedessor? A couple of things:-

The UV underbase mousse now comes with SPF30 PA+++ for better uv protection
The nozzle dispenses the mousse more easily

These are the 2 things I noticed immediately. Also, the packaging has been upgraded to be in line with the UV Under base Fluid. Very good idea

The function of the UV Under base mousse however remains the same as its predecessor – its a primer and makeup base and has a light tint so you can use it on its own. I much prefer the mousse to the fluid under base as it performs better for me. Also, Shu Uemura’s new beauty ambassador for this product is something!

While I was clearing out my room, I came across my little stash of Kose Softymo cleansing oils. I remembered I’d never told you about my inexpensive must-buy item whenever I go to Hong Kong!

Softymo is an inexpensive drugstore brand under the mother brand of Kose. These used to used be available in Watson’s and Sasa here in Malaysia. However, I have not seen them around for years now. I believe they are no longer brought in.

Why I say they are a must buy is because this is a great little bottle of cleansing oil. I always buy it for something like HKD35/45 a bottle which is just about RM20 here and it works so well.

I’ve been feeling my way around the Yuan Shampoo in Swertia for a while, ever since the local distributor sent it my way early this year. I wasn’t quite sure what to think.

This shampoo is formulated by the same people who gave us the Yuan Soaps from Taiwan, the Yuan shampoos are made from natural plant based ingredients and are bio degradable.They are also formulated to clean not only your hair but your scalp too which is the root of most hair problems. Pun intended

I self diagnosed myself with dry hair and so I received the Swertia Shampoo. Swertia is a plant with pretty purple flowers according to Wikipedia. I had to look it up because I’d never come across it before

The Swertia shampoo has a slightly runny texture so it dispenses as liquid which can be hard to control in the shower. There is also a tendency to use more than necessary because you only need a little in fact. Its been 3 months plus and I’m barely even a quarter of the way through with careful use. The bottle is plastic but looks like some cough medicine bottle and can be a little hard to handle in the shower. Something slimmer would be better in my view.

I live a life of drama as befits a diva I spent the whole morning fiddling with my computer that refused to come on, having to call off lunch at the last minute (and feeling darned bad because I made her come into KL for me!) and finally, taking the PC off to PC hospital where it was diagnosed as having a faulty power supply. RM40 and a new power pack later, I’m back! Yes I live a life of drama as my tweets will tell you LOL…

Anyway, a little birdie tells me I Nuovi is having a warehouse sale this week – deets on Facebook. There are a whole bunch of stuff you can pick up from I Nuovi actually – false eyelashes, lipstick, eyeshadow, blush… I’ve got the low down below; but first let me tell you about their FaceFix UV powder foundation.

I’ve had it so long and used it so much that I’ve forgotten to tell you about how wonderful it is. If you look at my most recent picture below, you’d notice a sliver of pan showing. Yes dearies. I’ve hit pan just in time to replenish at the sale!

The I Nuovi powder is lovely and smooth textured. Its fine and smooth to the touch and goes on my skin with a velvety softness. I don’t have very oily skin so it does not settle into my skin and leaves my skin looking and feeling velvety all day. It ranks up there with my Shu Uemura Face Architect powder foundation. I use them interchangeably and I always get complimented with both powders. Keepers? Yes indeedy!

The product comes in a round pan and the case is sold separately. If you already own a round powder case from another brand, you might be able to re use it.

I was staring at Karen’s picture of the new Shu Uemura Egerie Nail Enamel in Pink P935 and could not help wondering where I’d see that colour before. Its quite a common sort of salmon pink shade but in my meagre nail polish collection, I knew I had something similar.

A couple of seconds later, I found it. (I told you my nail colour collection is small ) It was Pretty by Stage Cosmetics.

Pretty is a pale pearly pink shade that is sweet and young and fresh (its pinker in real life than in the picture). Nothing as in-your-face as Gorgeous is. Perfect sort of shade for a sombre work place or for a date. Well, unless you are more of the red polish sort

Unlike Gorgeous, I found the formula of Pretty a little thick so it applied a little streaky. I also had a bit of a hard time controlling the brush to ensure a smooth sheer layer but I found it works better if you use a base. Then it glides on more easily and with 2 layers, you get pretty much what you see in the picture below.

Sometimes I come across great high end mascara and sometimes, I’m underwhelmed. I’m sorry to say the new Diorshow Extase mascara was a little underwhelming for me.

I’ve shown you what the brush head looks like below. Its a special tiered brush with 2 brushes to brush out and define your lashes and to hold and deposit the formula on the lashes. The problem with that brush head however is that it is too large for my small eyes So I only use the tip of it which makes me think I’m not making full use of the brush. I also have to make sure I clean off the mascara so it doesn’t clump up my lashes. I much prefer the brush for Dior Iconic mascara in this regard.

I must admit however that the Dior Extase mascara gives great volume. I love the effect on my lashes when I use it. The texture isn’t heavy and it helps volumize my lashes with just 1 swipe.

Here’s a tip when using Dior Extase mascara

I find the mascara a little wet. So, before applying to my lashes, I wave the mascara wand in the air a bit, to “dry” it out. Then I apply to my lashes. Helps prevent clumping and to prevent the lashes from sticking together.

So, what’s your hand cream of the day. Or perhaps I should say, What hand cream are you presently using? Mine is Sugar Grapefruit by Love + Toast.

Love & Toast is such a cute name for a brand no? Another little indie brand like TokyoMilk and incidentally by the same founder.

I’ve got the Sugar Grapefruit hand creme with me a lot because its a great little hand cream. The texture is light and it absorbs quickly without any sticky feel and best of all, it smells wonderful.

If you like citrus scents and grapefruit scents you’d love this one. The tube comes to you sealed. There is a thin bit of foil you have to puncture, but here’s the problem. There is nothing to puncture the foil with.

Unlike some caps that have that pointed bit at the end, the cap for the Love & Toast Hand Cream is flat. Bit of a bummer that. I had to use another cap to puncture the foil. This might be something the owners need to think about.

Otherwise, the box packaging is adorable as you can see below.
