Maybelline Water Shine 3D Collagen lipstick and some lipstick tips

I met up with some bloggers about 2 weeks ago for tea and being all girls, talk naturally turned to cosmetics, shopping and how regrettably expensive things are getting these days. The only difference at the 2nd tea party was that there was a new toy for me to play with – Maybelline’s Water Shine 3D Collagen lipstick (which fortunately is not expensive at all at only RM28.90!)

I had first noticed this new Maybelline lipstick launch a couple of weeks ago at a Guardian pharmacy. Maybelline comes up with so many new products nearly every month that I’m a little overwhelmed by the new collections. (Aside: I missed the Volume Express mascara promo but I’m told by my friend that its da bomb!) Tips: How to choose a lipstick colour?

A reader Sabrina left a comment on my previous post about Maybelline Watershine Lipsticks as follows:-

Ooh I would love to give this a try.. But I wouldn’t know which shade is the best for me, trying out on my hand is useless since my skin is a lot darker there..

Do you think you could recommend some colours that would work for a typical chinese-malay complexion?

Now, I can’t really recommend a colour because its hard to do so without having first seen the person. Other than skin colour, the other factor to consider is always personal preference.

In my case, I’m not afraid of bold colours or bright colours so I do tend towards brighter reds and corals and I even do plums or berries. I however don’t go near pinks because they wash me out and make me look pale and in a word, dead. I’ve had people ask me if I was feeling unwell all because I wore pale pink frosty lipstick. On another girl it would look lovely and fresh and sweet! Go figure!

Every now and again, you come across something cheap that works great and you end up wondering why you ever spent any money on high end products when low end ones work just as well!

New Benefit PosieTint Lip and Cheek Stain

I’m hardly ever tempted by cream or liquid blushes because previous experiences did not leave me with a good impression. However, the new Benefit PosieTint lip and cheek stain is suddenly calling out to me.

Don’t ask me why. I was not tempted by BeneTint although I know lots of people love it (I also know lots of people who hate it) and pink isn’t really a colour I like for the cheeks.

However, an online review I read described Posie Tint as Chanel Narcisse blush in a bottle, and I love Narcisse! Yes I know its a light pink that doesn’t work well on darker skintones but I love it on me. Does this mean I’ll like PosieTint too?

I won’t expect to see it here in Malaysia for a while - Erase Paste isn’t expected till June 2008 (I asked at the local counter about it and I got blank looks until the manager came along).  Dare I run the risk and order online for US$28? It’ll be cheaper…
