Ok, I’m really really excited about these new Pure Color High Intensity Lip Lacquers from Estee Lauder because I think I may have found my perfect “nude” lip. The thing about “nude lips” is that they are so tricky. Half the time, a colour proclaiming to be “nude” is a dull beige and seriously, have you seen anyone with a natural beige lip before? No one, I’d warrant. Well, maybe a corpse.
But I recently tried on the Pure Color High Intensity Lip Lacquer in Vinyl Rose, a colour I’d never pick up at the best of times, and much to my surprise, fell head over heels for it!
The Estee Lauder Pure Color High Intensity Lip Lacquers are new products. What they are, is a hybrid between a seriously pigmented, highly opaque lipstick and a shiny lip gloss. They come in liquid form, in packaging similar to that of the Pure Color Lip Glosses with a sponge tip applicator.
The texture is really thick and they apply like a creamy thick lacquer on your lips. It all sounds quite intense and uncomfortable, but they aren’t. You can feel the creamy, slightly thick texture on your lips for sure, yet it does not feel heavy nor goopy. The colour is intense, crazily opaque and last. For. Hours.
I’m a bit of a strange fish in that I’m not really into wearing lip gloss but a good liquid lipstick like the offerings from Guerlain, Laura Mercier and Shiseido really get the ol’ blood going. Well, add these Estee Lauder Lip Lacquers to the bunch!
While I usually dislike sponge tip applicators. these paddle shaped applicators are actually really good for holding the colour and then spreading it onto your lip. It also helps you shape your lips because an intense colour and liquid product can be a little challenging to get in line.
Pure Color High Intensity Lip Lacquer in Wet Plum (Left) and Vinyl Rose (Right)
I find these incredibly long lasting, without drying out my lips at all. The colour, especially a strong one like Wet Plum, stays on and wears evenly for hours. Yes, I took it through my regular oily noodle soup lunch test and it passed with flying colours! But be warned not to be too violent about eating of course. I usually wipe off my lip colour after lunch and then reapply or use a different colour thereafter so I can say it safely takes you to the 5 hour mark without fading but I can’t say for sure how much longer you can take it thereafter.
Here are swatches on my arm.
Vinyl Rose is on left and Wet Plum on right. Only 1 layer of product.
Vinyl Rose is a rather muted pink in tube and even when swatched on my arm. It is what I’d consider a safe colour, in that it isn’t terribly exciting, but it is a colour that I’d easily be able to wear everyday without too much trouble. On me, this is what I’d imagine a “nude lip” to be. A healthy, natural pinkish toned lip that doesn’t make me look washed out, yet offers a little colour to my complexion. There isn’t any shimmer, but there is a high lacquered shine.
Wet Plum is a deep plummy red. The colour is incredibly intense so it is a bit tricky to ensure it all stays within your lip line and that you get it all evened out. But it is such a lush colour on the lips and the lacquered shine is incredible. The best part of course, is that it sticks to your lips and stays on, without fading or bleeding. I had this on through coffee, water and noodles. Incredible.
And here they are on lips for reference. I find that Vinyl Rose isn’t as shiny on as Wet Plum. In these swatches I’m wearing just 1 layer, blended out. The colour is incredible. (Have you been keeping count of how many times I’ve said ‘incredible’?)
For an idea of how it looks when worn in a full face look, I wore them with the same look but just changed the lips. You could say this might be how you’d want to wear this from day to night 🙂
This is what I meant when I said that the Vinyl Rose Lip Lacquer was my “nude lip” shade. It isn’t too eye catching, it isn’t too shiny but just gives the right amount of colour to not wash me out, yet helps me look polished for the day. I love this one in a way I never expected to. Easily one I’ve been wearing very often for it’s longevity and easy to wear colour 😀
For the evening, switch up the colour for something brighter and more intense 😀
Wet Plum glams things up with a plummy red lip with high intensity colour, opacity and shine. Love it! Then again, I also wear this in the day. I’m a rebel that way 😉
In a nutshell
The new Estee Lauder Pure Color High Intensity Lip Lacquers are strongly pigmented, highly opaque, intensely coloured and high shine liquid lipsticks. The texture is quite thick which can take some getting used to and you can feel it on your lips. However, it doesn’t feel uncomfortable (I’d know coz I’m sensitive that way) and the colour and shine are out of this world. It is seriously as if you painted your lips with lacquer. The longevity is very good and it does not wear off that easily. There is a light vanilla scent I could do without but it doesn’t bug me that much. If you love a strong, shiny lip, you’ll love these. Or if you don’t, then check out Vinyl Rose. It’s my to-go “nude lip” colour 😀
Pros: Intense colour, High opacity, High shine, Not drying, Long lasting, Thick texture but not sticky, Easy to apply, Bright colours
Cons: Colours may be too bright for some people,
Who will like this: Anyone who loves bright lip colours, Anyone who likes wearing liquid lipstick
I think these are fab for the price, texture, colour and longevity. Absolutely, incredibly, fab! On the flipside, I never saw this one coming out of the Estee Lauder stable. So I am very very pleasantly surprised!
Have you taken a look at these Lip Lacquers yet? Do you like wearing liquid lipstick?
I have found that I really enjoy wearing liquid lipstick even if I don’t like wearing lip gloss. It’s funny isn’t it? I think it’s to do with the pigment and intensity of colour. I’m all about colour for lips! 😀 Might have to take a look at a couple of the other shades available.

Wow!! I like both colours! Vinyl Rose looks very wearable for day.
Paris B says
It most certainly is! I have been slicking it on so often lately because it’s just so wearable and so “office friendly” 😀
Lena L says
i think Estee Lauder lippies are seriously underrated.
both colors looks lucious and beautiful on you. i think i’d like them since i’m into hybrid lippies myself. 😉
Paris B says
Hi Lena, you hit the nail on the head! Estee Lauder IS very underrated for their lip products especially! It’s great to know that they are coming up with more exciting products. They are fab and I think will look fab on you too 😉
Juan says
Oh wow both colours look really good! I especially like the wet plum.
Paris B says
That one’s a stunner! Glam and exotic all at once 😀
Sunny says
Liquid lipsticks are quite possibly trickier than both lipsticks and glosses! Out of everything I’ve tried (Guerlain, GA, Hourglass), the only formula I love unconditionally is the Guerlain one. Everything else moves around or peels off in a weird way, and I just can’t check my lips when I’m out and about every 30 minutes! With that said, while Wet Plum looks amazing on, the moving around thing is unfortunately putting me off 🙁 Why can’t every liquid lipstick set as nicely as the Guerlain one? One can only wonder 😉
Paris B says
Hmm interesting point, Sunny! I don’t really experience much moving around or bleeding from the liquid lipsticks I’ve used so far or even if they do transfer a little, they still stay on my lips for hours without fading. But then I do understand these things happen. Guerlain’s definitely get top billing for being absolutely fabulous but it’s great to see more affordable (in a manner of speaking) options appear on the scene too. But maybe that’s why Guerlain’s is No. 1 too hehe…
Anusha says
Hot and graceful – could there be a more potent combination?!! I will choose Vinyl Rose for me though not because the other one isnt gorgeous but because i am not sure if it will look good on me 🙁
Paris B says
Aptly put, Anusha 🙂 I love Vinyl Rose actually. It’s so wearable as a colour and lasts so long I don’t have to worry about touching up if I don’t want to. Also, less prone to mistakes than Wet Plum or any brighter colour 😀
Irenebaby says
Wet Plum is gorgeous on you. Looks like something Snow White would wear if she decides to ‘vamp up’. 😛
OT but have you ever tried Clinique’s Black Honey? Would love to see a comparison between that and Dior’s Black Tie.
Paris B says
Hahaha Vampy Snow White mmm… the imagery! 😉 Interestingly, Black Honey is one colour I haven’t yet owned. On paper, it does look close to Black Tie but I’m a sucker for Dior’s lipstick formula and less of Clinique’s so in a pinch, I suppose you’d know which I’d pick 😉
Jyoan says
Got to have this!
Paris B says
I think you’ll love them
Marina(Makeup4all) says
I really love how both shades look on you!
Paris B says
Thank you Marina! I can so see you wearing Wet Plum!
Jennifer says
Oh my! Such lovely and vampish shade at the same time – demure and out for the kill 🙂 Wet plum looks so fabulous on you!
Paris B says
Thank you Jennifer! You know, I can so see you wear Vinyl Rose! 😀
Lavender says
Wow ! The plum one is definitely a winner. You looked so glamorous.
Paris B says
Thank you Lavender 🙂 It’s a lovely colour that I’m sure will look glam on anyone 🙂
Tracy@Beauty Reflections says
Gorgeous both of them on you! I have Vinyl Rose and LOVE it too. I want to get more of them!
Paris B says
Yay for lip twins, Tracy! 😀
Jane says
Both look beautiful on you, especially the Wet Plum. You are brave to eat noodles with this colour on. I love these rich shades but usually don’t wear them to go out if I’m going to eat or drink something because I will end up with a case of “clown mouth,” even when I’m careful. I love lipstick and I love eating but sometimes the two don’t agree with one another. So I end up wearing only the pretty “nude” shades most of the time. Sigh.
Paris B says
Hi Jane, thank you 🙂 Yes, noodles are my lipstick longevity test haha! If they can last through oily noodles, they can last through anything! I guess I don’t usually care very much if they get messed up because I will wipe off everything and start again after having any heavy food. It’s the only way to keep a good lip fresh – so don’t be afraid. It’s just makeup – reapply! 😉
Jacqueline says
Wet Plum looks amazing on you. I unfortunately cannot do dark glossy lips.
Paris B says
Aww why not Jacqueline? Then again, you look absolutely fab in red! 😀
Jacqueline says
Dark glossy lips make my lips look ten times its size. Lol
Paris B says
No, seriously?! I thought it would be the opposite! :O
Ting says
Both colours are pretty on you! Wet plum is strong but so womanly. 🙂 Haven’t tried EL’s lip lacquer before. I think they look good to have a go. 🙂
p/s: your description of nude lips on a corpse has permanently put a visual image in my head… yikes!
Paris B says
“Womanly” another way to say old issit? LOL! Thank you Ting – they are new and really fab! I love them! Oh and yes, nude lips. I absolutely DO NOT GET BEIGE LIPS! Fin 😛
Ting says
No lah, Paris! Womanly is a little mature unlike teenage girls. I like to feel womanly sometimes. I love those shift dresses from the 40’s… so classy. 🙂
Likewise, I do not get orange lips… I think it’s very difficult to rock a orange shade. Or I am terrible with it. 🙁
Paris B says
Haha I got you 😉 I think orange lips and Chinese skin don’t go. I’ve gone down the orange route. Not likely to again 😛
Ting says
But you totally rock the Tangerine Scream from Sleek Makeup. 🙂
zaag says
Wow~! I thought the Vinyl Rose looked good on you, until I saw Wet Plum. You looked amazing in the wet plum photo! The two worked really well with your complexion~! Good for you that you found those two colors.
I’m interested in Wet Plum. I have a tanner complexion and I recently found a lipstick by Milani that looked similar in shade to Wet Plum that was on clearance at my local Target store. I am not a lipstick person, but when I put the Milani lip color on when I got home, I was really happy I bought it.
So, I’m hooked on that kind of coloring now. Like how you found your “nude” in Vinyl Rose, I found my “red” in the Milani shade…I forgot the name of the shade, but I love it.
Paris B says
Thank you Zaag 🙂 Both colours are really pretty and the texture quite blows me away. I think Wet Plum will definitely look fab on someone with a tanned complexion. I have tried a couple of Milani lip items and they were pretty impressive! Like their eyeshadows and blushes. Or at least the older formula ones 🙂
shannen says
you look fantastic in Wet Plum!
Paris B says
Thanks Shannen! <3
Jen W says
Oh my goodness, Wet Plum!! I just fainted.
Paris B says
*waves smelling salts* Wake up Jenny! It’d look fabulous on you – can’t wait till you check it out!
S. Drama&Makeup says
They both look great on you! I think I need to try Wet Plum 🙂
Paris B says
I think you do too, S! Thank you.
Suikit says
Hi Paris, do you know which EL counter (in klang valley or kl) can I get this product cos I have been looking everywhere and yet to find a counter which has all the 12 shades. Am feeling frustrated. Thx…
Paris B says
Hey Suikit, I checked this up for you and apparently, it’s available in the main counters so safest to try the ones in KLCC Pavilion or The Gardens. But they’re low on stock at this point which might be why you’re not able to find all the colours. Should be back in stock soon I think 🙂
Suikit says
Thanks for the info Paris!!!! ????
