Goodness, I haven’t done a blog tag in such a long time that it is almost refreshing to be remembered and tagged by a fellow blogger! Haha! Back in the days when I first started blogging, we’d be forever tagging each other to do these things, but I haven’t done one of these for a while so it’s nice to go back to basics.

Marina of Makeup4all tagged me last week to share a 5 Product Makeup post and I thought it was so refreshing to be tagged, I’d do it!

5 product makeup Tagged, Im It! Paris Picks : 5 Makeup Products Id Pick in a Pinch

Essentially, all I had to do was pick 5 products I’d use to do my makeup. It wasn’t hard but it wasn’t easy either because you know us women. We’d have 300 scenarios in our head for what we’d need to doll up for and it’s always that 301st that has us stumped icon razz Tagged, Im It! Paris Picks : 5 Makeup Products Id Pick in a Pinch

But I picked out these 5 products on the basis that with only 5 products, I’d go simple and keep my focus on looking flawless. Before you read mine, put on your thinking caps, there will be a test!

So here are the 5 items I picked for my 5 Product Makeup.

5 product makeup breakdown Tagged, Im It! Paris Picks : 5 Makeup Products Id Pick in a Pinch

  1. A bright lip – I picked the Estee Lauder Wet Plum Lip Lacquer but I was basically gunning for a bright lip. It brightens up the complexion and allows you to get away without messing about with your eyes. You may notice that no eye products feature! See, wear a bright bright lip and no one will notice!
  2. A bright blush – My pick is the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Blush in Pink Coral, a colour I have been using a lot of lately. Again, a bright pop of colour on the cheeks simulates the bloom of youth and makes you look younger and perkier. Alive, as it were.
  3. A brow pencil – My pick is the very worn Shu Uemura Hard Pencil 9 in Seal Brown. I love it for being easy to use and for giving me defined brows. I picked brows over eyeliner because I find that when I have brows on, it frames the face enough for you to get away without eye makeup. I however, do not like having to take it back to the store to sharpen to the sword shape that makes it so easy to use so once I’m done, I’m going to have to find a retractable pencil in a similar shape. Please feel free to recommend me your faves.
  4. A good concealer – Yes lovelies, I have a lot to conceal and so I go for my Holy Grail concealer, the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. It brightens my under eye area, conceals blemishes, stays on all day and is just pretty much perfect. Can’t go anywhere without this one!
  5. A light foundation or base – The Guerlain Lingerie de Peau BB Beauty Booster is pretty much a foundation for me. It has good enough coverage and just gives me that good base that I look for, evening out my complexion and any ruddiness in the skin. I’ve been so happy with the condition of my skin that I now use this on work days for my base and it’s awesome.

So that’s pretty much what I’d use if I could only pick 5 makeup products. My focus is on the skin because it’s what I think I need to work most on. Right, so now I have to tag some people to do this tag so I’d pick Tine, Sheila, Tracy, S (DnM) and Mag. Go forth and spill!

If you could only pick 5 makeup products, what 5 makeup products would you pick?

I’d love to know what 5 makeup products you’d pick too so share away in the comment box or on your blog. There’s no logic to this you know. Feel free to pick whatever you want, and justify it (or not) as you will. Maybe you want to do 5 products for eyes? Or 5 for lips? Ooh that would be fun… icon wink Tagged, Im It! Paris Picks : 5 Makeup Products Id Pick in a Pinch It’s fun and it really does test you because really, only 5 makeup products? You gotta be kidding right? hehe… icon wink Tagged, Im It! Paris Picks : 5 Makeup Products Id Pick in a Pinch Oh and if you have a rec for a retractable angled brow pencil, please share too!

I like your choice! I definitely pick the concealer too. I’m not a lips person. So I definitely replaced that with an eye product probably an eyeliner.:)

High5 Cynthia :D Love the concealer to bits, I think I can toss everything else I own haha!

Ting October 16, 2013 at 9:05 am

Hehe… 5 products and we are not even including any brushes!!

My pick will be… Chanel Vitalumier Aqua, a rosy lipstick to double as cream blush, dark brown eyeshadow that triple as eyeliner, eyebrow colour and outer corner shade, tapered eyeliner brush and mascara! :)

Reply

Paris B October 18, 2013 at 5:53 pm

LOL! No, no brushes for this one! :D I like your idea of duplicating lip and blush. Doh! Why didn’t I think of that :P

Jenn October 16, 2013 at 9:10 am

Hmm this is interesting! I’ve been wanting to get the Shu Uemura Hard Pencil but I’m too lazy to bring it down to the store to sharpen everytime (the counter is far away from me too!) :D

Here’s mine:
1. Pond’s Magic Powder – keeps my face matt the entire day! And it is dirt cheap! :D
2. NARS Deep Throat blush – I reach for this blush 90% of the time because it goes with all makeup looks! I have to be careful to hide it from my mum though – the name is embarrassing (happened to me once when she asked me what is this blush named… I just handed it over to her, ask her to read herself and scrambled away! :P )!
3. Daiso eyebrow pencil – works for me and is so cheap too! :D
4. MAC Baby Sparks Dazzleglass – So sparkly and goes with all lipsticks, I love this to bits! :D
5. MAC Photogravure Technakohl – Love how I don’t have to sharpen this one! :D

Not just that, the counter at Pavilion butchers my pencils all the time while the one at MidValley gives me a good edge. Yet, I can’t get down to MV all the time so I’m really bummed. I think I’m going to have to give it up soon :P I tried the Daiso brow pencil and it’s great for the price, but I couldn’t like it for some reason :( I can’t remember if I have Deep Throat but thank your lucky stars your fave isn’t Orgasm :P

Lily October 16, 2013 at 9:19 am

5 products, that’s kinda tough.
1. A multi tasker for lips and cheeks – Bobbi Brown pot rouge
2. A multi tasker for eyes which happens to be from Bobbi Brown also – their brow kit which can be used to fill in brows, eye shadow and liner (brush included in the kit)
3. Mascara is a must for me
4. A light concealer which can double as foundation – RMS un cover up
5. Lastly, powder to keep shine at bay

Reply

Paris B October 18, 2013 at 5:59 pm

Good picks Lily! I just can’t get the RMS to work for me so I’m giving it away. I am actually experimenting with not wearing any mascara for a while, to give my lashes a break before they break! :P

Applegal October 16, 2013 at 9:19 am

Hmm! Now I’m interested in that Nars concealer. I’ve stopped using concealer under the eye and now just use foundation, because the concealers I’ve tried are of a different texture and the colour doesn’t seem to match with the rest of the face -_-

For me I prefer some definition to the eye and a more natural lip, so I would pick liquid foundation, powder, a pink blush, liquid eyeliner and a hint of Bobbi Brown’s Old Hollywood. Just a stain of it ;)

Reply

Paris B October 18, 2013 at 6:00 pm

And that’s why you need the Nars concealer! Haha… But honestly, I love it because I can use it for BOTH under eye AND blemishes on the rest of the face. Just be sure that when you use it on the under eye area, don’t use a lot because it can get cakey. So, 1 dot on the inner corner and 1 dot on the outer corner is more than enough :)

I’ll recommend Cyber Color Eyebrow Pencil (Silver Tube)! It’s freaking me coz of the price and brand (no offence here, haha!!!). I personally think that it is better than Shu Uemura, 3CE (Korean Stylenanda’s makeup line), and Kanebo in terms of drawing eyebrow at the area without hairs.

My 5 Makeup Products would be: 1. Cyber Color Eyebrow Pencil 2. K-Palette 24Hrs Superslim Eyeliner 3. Nars Blush 4. Kiss Me/Majolica-Majorca Mascara and 5. IPSA Creative Concealer

Reply

Paris B October 18, 2013 at 6:02 pm

Thanks for the eyebrow pencil rec! I’ll be sure to take a look. The problem now is to brave myself to step past the Sasa doors haha! You can tell I’m not quite endeared to them :P But for your rave for it, I’ll brave them ;)

Wynnce October 21, 2013 at 11:39 am

Ya, I know your phobia to Sasa Malaysia, hahaha!!! Anyhow, you can order them online from Sasa Hong Kong.

Reply

Paris B October 21, 2013 at 11:44 am

Haha yeah I think my Sasa-phobia is legendary :P I stopped ordering from Sasa.com too because they took MONTHS to deliver and they never tell you! Still, I can’t deny I’m usually tempted anyway :P

Reply

Wynnce October 21, 2013 at 12:08 pm

Really??? My two purchases from Sasa HK are just working fine. Their delivery is speedy too, weird then~ But I heard that Nars Brow Shaper is nice…I’m thinking of trying it this coming Nov~

Reply

Paris B October 21, 2013 at 12:09 pm

Yeah I ordered once, got it 3 months later. Didn’t tell me they were moving warehouses till 2 weeks later. Ordered another time, took 1 month. Gave up after that LOL

I use eyebrow pencil from daiso too. Really cheapo and served d purpose.probably cuz I don’t need much help in that area.most x I forget to touch up my brow anyway.hehe .. My 5 pdts will be
1.shu uemura mousse primer
2. Laneige bb cushion
3. Nars creamy concealer (love this Thankx so much Paris for ur recommendations )
4. Lipstick /liptint
5. Mascara
actually I can even make away with 4 products on daily days. As usually I skip my eyes area and concentrate on my skin and lips ..so mascara wasn’t really something I use daily.

Reply

Paris B October 20, 2013 at 2:11 pm

Good to know the Daiso pencil works for you. I tried it a while ago but didn’t quite like the effect. Maybe I should give it another go :) oh and good to know that the Nars Concealer works for you too! Its so good right?

Reply

leona leong October 21, 2013 at 9:07 am

The NARS concealer is really good. No more creasing under the eyes and is so pigmented and heavy I needed to use only little amount. Thankx again for your recommendation. I love to read your review because you’re Msian and I really can relate to your skin type, skintones to the humid weather we staying in. I read your reply to Wynnce. I have the same feeling everytime I entered SASA shops too!!! Gosh..I thought I was the only one with this feeling. The SA is either really rude or pushy. I would just like a piece of mind looking through new products but they are always around on your face giving the ‘you better be quick and buy lotsa pdts’ look. urgghh…so I avoided SASA unless I really have somethin particular in mind which SASA only sells.

Reply

Paris B October 21, 2013 at 11:27 am

That’s what I love about the NARS Concealer too! So little is needed to do a big job well :) Thank you for your kind comments and support and yes, I am terrified of Sasa stores! I can’t bear being followed or having weird brands pushed in my face while I’m checking out something else. I’d just like to browse in peace and that’s something Sasa doesn’t allow so I don’t even walk in anymore. If there’s a brand only sold in there, I guess I’ll never know eh? :P

The Majolica Majorca pencil has a similar shape, and it comes in a twist-up retractable packaging! You can also buy just the pencil itself as a refill, so it’s more cost-effective. :)

I just tried my aunt’s Hard 9 Pencil and I found the color to be a little to thin for me heh heh. I prefer my brows to be darker, heee~

Here are my five:
1. A good medium coverage foundation for all occasions: MAC Pro Longwear Foundation, layered over problem areas as a concealer stand-in.
2. A good, bright lipstick: Anything fuchsia and creamy will do – My fave is MAC’s Sheen Supreme in Insanely It.
3. Peachy-pink blush: It suits every look, and gives a natural glow to the skin, hee ^.^ Fave is Nars Deep Throat blush.
4. Waterproof mascara: Any formula will do, so long it’s waterproof.
5. Dark, black gel eyeliner: I like the fact that it’s easily applied, and can be as precise as a liquid eyeliner with the right brush. The darker, the better. All time fave: Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel liner, the black one.

Paris B October 20, 2013 at 2:14 pm

Maybe its the colour? I use Seal Brown which is probably the most popular shade and layering it gives better intensity of colour. There is another shade up if you like the texture :) another fan of Deep Throat! I thought I had it but I actually have Torrid which is very nice too :)

Firn October 16, 2013 at 11:20 am

Allow me to recommend K-Palette’s liquid brow marker (02: gray brown). Lisa Eldridge uses a similar one by Suqqu in one of her videos working on a Chinese model and the results are wayy more natural than a brow pencil. Sweatproof too (tested in a very sweaty ballet class)!

Reply

Paris B October 20, 2013 at 2:21 pm

You know what? I think this was the one recommended to my by a makeup artist one! She used it on my brows and I was very fascinated. I’ll have to look for K Palette here, thanks for the reminder!

I don’t have much makeup experience but so far my top makeup products to go are

1. cybercolors auto eyebrow pen
2.revlon just bitten kissable lips
3.maybelline mineral concealer (i could wear this alone without foundation lol)

Reply

Paris B October 20, 2013 at 2:27 pm

Nice picks, Ashley. I have heard the Maybelline mineral concealer is quite good but I couldn’t find a match in it. Does it work for both blemishes and under eye?

Reply

Ashley Chaw October 20, 2013 at 3:09 pm

it actually works for my blemishes. not much for under eye as my eye circles aren’t that obvious yet! haha >_<

I agree with you on the bright lips part :) Thanks to your revlon kissable stain review, I don’t leave my house without it. There are mornings when I simply don’t have time to apply makeup so I just do a quick swipe of the kissable stain in Honey, and I’m good to go. My other staples are (that is when I have more time, hehe):
1. Etude drawing eye brow pencil – works for me, super cheap, no need to sharpen
2. Kate BB gel cream – perfect match on me before, but my skin got lighter after summer. ..so now I’m searching for a new BB cream..I’m thinking of the Laneige BB cushion based on your review as well
3. Tarte amazonian clay blush in blissful
Hmm, now I’m also thinking about trying the NARS concealer. Your blog is evil, Paris. Haha. Just kidding!

Reply

Paris B October 20, 2013 at 2:30 pm

Oh yay! I’ve been getting a lot of use out of Honey too! One of the better neutral lip colours I can wear :) you have me interested in the Étude brow pencil. I think I’ll have to take a look! Oh yeah I’ve been told I’m evil quire often hehe..l used to it now, but if I love something I’m always happy to know that it works for someone else too!

Hmm 5 products ..

1 – primer : my skin sometimes get oily when I’m not in an air conditioned room during the day so the “Estée Lauder mattifying primer ” usually helps whatever I’m putting after stay .
2. Obsessed with multitasking products recently – the ” Nars Multiple” (I think it’s called that?) .It’s like a lipstick but much thicker and also in a tube . Could be used as blush , and basically anything.
3. Foundation – usually I go with low coverage so it’s usually be creams from Different brands but if a pimple suddenly appears , I’d go with Estée Lauder doublewear light .
4. Powder – Chanel powdré universallé .
5. Brows – shu uemura hard formulae pencil ( read your review on it and got it , currently loving it haha)

So that’s it ~ hehe

Reply

Paris B October 20, 2013 at 2:31 pm

Thanks for sharing Robert! Glad to know the Shu pencil works for you too. Its so natural isn’t it? I tried hard to like the Nars Multiple but couldn’t. I think its the texture that I didn’t like. Found it too dry in some and too creamy in others but I don’t deny it is practical!

Thanks for the tag Marina :) I guess I’m an all or nothing girl when it comes to my eyes. I have to have the whole works of shadow, liner and sometimes mascara or I don’t wear anything at all! In this case I didn’t have a choice hehe

Great base – for me, this means a BB cream. Love Dr Jart Black Label (for dry skin).
Have to set with a great loose powder – I currently have a few good ones, MUFE for high-end, and Essence for drugstore.
Need an amazing neutral blush with multi-colour and some kind of highlighting effect (I am not into matte) – Benefit Sugarbomb over NARS Deep Throat. (ARGH, too hard to choose).
Lip colour that is ultra long-wearing yet moisturising, must be neutral too – Rouge Bunny Rouge in Whim of Mine.
Amazing all-rounder waterproof mascara – Sasa Super Dolly for affordable, or MUFE Aqua for high-end. I recently discover Maybelline Rocket and OMG, you have to try it. Think the Rocket beats the other two actually, and I have loved those two for years and years.

Reply

Paris B October 20, 2013 at 2:50 pm

Nice picks right there, and well thought out! :) So the Maybelline Rocket mascara is worth trying? I”ll be sure to then! I have read some very good things about it and I did like the Falsies which was the last Maybelline mascara I used, so it’s probably time to go back. Just in time too. My mascaras all just got tossed! :D

These are the 5 things in my makeup bag which is with me at all times :)

1. MAC Mineralized Skinfinish Natural in Medium Dark
2. Becca Cheek Tint in Watermelon
3. Shu eyelash curler ( I prefer Shiseido, but that belongs at home!)
4. Travel size Benefit They’re Real mascara (LOVE!)
5. NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in São Paolo (great colour! Makes a bare face look polished!)
And I always carry an EcoTools face/cheek brush!

Reply

Paris B October 20, 2013 at 2:51 pm

Nice picks Ika! I have been meaning to try the Benefit They’re Real mascara but keep putting it off. Soon! It’s interesting that I actually don’t carry any makeup with me except for lipsticks to touch up haha… Well unless I know for a fact I need to be somewhere important in the evening, in which case I pack a small pouch but that’s rare

Concealer tops my list!

My current holy grail is Cle de Peau but you’ve gotten me tempted with that NARS one. Can’t wait for the KL branch to be opened so I can go test for shades.

Reply

Paris B October 20, 2013 at 2:52 pm

I’ve heard a lot about the Cle de Peau concealer for many years now. Never got round to trying it because it’s pricey! Will be interesting to see if you like the Nars one and if I should then try CdP heh…

Reply

Anne October 16, 2013 at 11:38 pm

Interesting blog and its such a pain to only pick 5 makeup items! haha. My pick are:

a) Cleu de peau Smoothing Base for Pores. Extremely good base for oily skin. Keeps foundation fresh and long-lasting.
b) Rimmel Wake me Up Foundation- My HG foundie for oily skin. All the high-end brands have no fight against this!
c) NARS Radient Cream Concealer- You have already covered it :p
4) Laura Mercer Translucent Setting Powder- Keep makeup flesh and matt
5) Burberry Lip Velvet in Peony Rose

Reply

Paris B October 20, 2013 at 2:53 pm

Nice picks, Anne! I have to go and try the Rimmel foundation – I was at the pharmacy the other day and wanted to but the shelves were so bare and I couldn’t remember which one it was that I had to try LOL! There are so many aren’t there? I have to go and look again :)

Aube October 17, 2013 at 4:50 am

The Etude House drawing eyebrow might be what you are looking for :)
It’s very cheap and works wonders ! Only there could I find the color close to my natural color (kind of weird grey brown…)
Anyway, for my top 5, I would pick: a bb cream, a blush, a brow pencil, a mascara and a lip gloss.

Reply

Paris B October 20, 2013 at 2:54 pm

Thanks for the rec Aube! I will take a look the next time I go by an Etude House counter. At least if it doesn’t work, it won’t be an expensive experiment ;)

Laura October 17, 2013 at 1:16 pm

I like how you think, Paris! I’m a bright lip girl as well, and my products are almost exactly the same as yours. I want a bright lip stick/lip balm hybrid, a concealer, and eyebrow product. Where we differ is that I’d want mascara, and I’d need a setting powder for my undereyes. If I could forgo the setting powder, I’d love a shimmer highlight pencil or stick, but alas, mascara and concealer smudge! Everywhere! Maybe I need higher quality products…

Reply

Paris B October 20, 2013 at 3:10 pm

Yay for great minds thinking alike, Laura ;) Unfortunately for me, whether I wear mascara or not makes no difference to my puny lashes so I go all or nothing. Either I go the whole eyeshadow, liner and mascara route or none at all LOL Then I realised that going all the way meant I’d use up my 5 item quota. Oops! :D

For my simple look the 5 thinks I cannot do without
1) Chanel Perfection Lumiere (Currently the foundie that suits my skintone perfectly for now)
2) Chanel Le Creme Blush in Revelation (the most universal shade)
3) Shu Uemura Brow Pencil (the exact one you have, currently I have 3 hiding around in my makeup pouch, I keep losing them)
4) Stila Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in black
5) Any pinky lipstick (I’m faithless when it comes to lippies, I change all the time)

Reply

Paris B October 20, 2013 at 3:30 pm

Ah Jacqueline, I have to try the Chanel cream blushes! So many raves for them everywhere! :D Oh and you know what? I have 2 of the Shu Uemura pencils too just so I don’t have to keep going to have them sharpened :P I use them both down to the extent that they are both unusable then take them for sharpening :P
