I was reading Yishan’s post over at Beauty Swatch about her Beauty Philosophy where she shared 4 of her beauty mantras that she practises most often and I thought it was a very interesting topic to pick up and share and discuss 🙂
I am in full agreement with all of her points and here are 4 of my beauty philosophies which may or may not overlap. Do share yours too – it’ll be very interesting to see what yours are and if you agree with mine! 🙂
#1 Beauty does not have to be expensive
There is a lot to love about luxury brands and luxury products. Its easy to go all gaga and to lust after something with a 3 figure price tag. But if you look a little harder, there is a lot to love from the pharmacy or drugstore too! I have 10 star budget buys I showcased recently, and I’ll be showing more of it as we go along so stay tuned for more beauty bargains!
#2 Moisturise! Moisturise! Moisturise!
I am a firm believer that keeping skin hydrated and moisturised will help with most skin problems. I’ve done it myself and I now stick primarily to a hydrating skin regiment, only adding in anti-aging serums or whitening serums as I see fit. The primary focus is to keep my skin hydrated as that is when I see my skin at its best. When a skincare range fails to make my skin feel comfortable this way, I ditch it. I guess its just me learning what works for my skin.
#3 Nothing works for everyone
If anyone thinks that there is one product out there that works for EVERYONE then they are, I’d say pretty naive or pretty deluded. There is NO product that works for everyone. It may work for the majority, but there will be someone for whom it fails because, get this, we’re all different. So don’t buy into the hype too quickly. Even if the world is raving about it and pushing you to go and buy something already, don’t give in to the hype. Try it, work it out for yourself if it works for YOU. My most recent meh! moment was with the Lancome Rouge in Love lipsticks that everyone loved. I didn’t but it is my preference and no one is right or wrong 🙂
#4 There are no ugly women only lazy ones
Nothing was ever achieved without a little bit of hard work and this goes too with beauty. Is it any wonder I chose this quote for my blog tagline? 😉 For some, the whole skincare process day and night is a chore. I’d say its a necessity. Its important to remove the dirt of the day and just as important to put back all the goodness your skin will benefit from. How many products you use is your choice. But I am one of those who uses a lot which works for me and I don’t see myself stopping. But see Philosophy #3 above too 😉
Your turn: What is your beauty philosophy? Do you agree with mine?
Please feel free to share your own. We can all learn something from each other 😀

Yishan says
I LOVE IT!! And I especially love your photographs too
Paris B says
Thanks Yishan! 😀
Jen says
This is such an awesome post Ms. PB..
You know what, often times at night I feel tired because of the whole day of work that I feel so lazy to clean up my face and just want to hop to bed and doze off, I always remember your tagline (and take note, with the logo “My Women Stuff” in my mind hah!) and then I tell myself, “Yeah right! That woman is right! I shall go and wash my face”. 😀
Paris B says
Thanks Jen and its great to know that you are inspired to make sure you go to bed with a clean and moisturised face! 😀 I sometimes feel exhausted at the end of the day too and that’s when I cut short my skincare routine and just do a simple cleanse and moisturise before collapsing in bed 😛
Mandy says
Agree with you PB! My no.1 beauty philosophy is “I do it because I like it, happiness cannot be forced”. Somehow I rarely find skincare a chore. I think to me it is an enjoyable ritual of sorts. I only slack off sometimes on applying body lotion when I feel too tired. The face is more compelling haha.
jamie says
haha me too Mandy!! lol people wonder how i can persevere to my routine everyday but i really look forward to it cuz its so soothing! haha yay not alone in this 🙂
Paris B says
That’s a great beauty philosophy Mandy! Indeed, happiness for anything can never be forced so we should do what makes US happy 😀
Michelle Beh says
I would totally agree with you Paris!!!! Definitely onto the philosophy! Perhaps add on another sunscreen as a staple step?? Haha!!
Paris B says
Oh yes, Sunscreen is a MUST! 😀 I didn’t add it coz I keep preaching it and was afraid everyone would just be bored stiff 😀
Swati says
Paris, can you suggest any good moisturizer??? That’s something for which I have never found any HG product. I love facial oils but I would definitely love to keep a moisturizer too.
Paris B says
Hey Swati, I believe a facial oil would work just as well as moisturizer i.e. it helps keep skin hydrated so there isn’t much need for a separate moisturizer unless you feel you need one. If I use a facial oil, I usually use it alone. If I do use a moisturizer over it, I go for something light like an emulsion or a gel cream type. There’s no real need to use a moisturiser if your skin doesn’t feel too dry after oils – I should have said “Hydration” instead 😀
Sunny says
I agree with you, Paris! My beauty philosophy is pretty much just staying happy and confident. On some days I’m happy going all out, on others I’m happy with just some lotion slabbed on. Ultimately it’s just about feeling good about yourself 🙂
Paris B says
There’s a lot of truth there, Sunny 🙂 Confidence is really key sometimes because that enables us to go out there and do what we want, knowing we look good anyway 😉
Rin says
Hi Paris~ I loooove ur post!
Mine:
1) Apply my usual skincare products twice a day. Eye gel/cream is a must for me too -twice a day. Sunscreen! Must must must.
2) Same like yours. Moisturise! Very important to moisturise even though I have oily skin.
3) Apply mask twice a week.
4) Good sleep. If I sleep late, my skin goes hectic. Pimples here & there, dehydrated & tired skin.
I agree with u too. Some products (pricey ones or not) may not work for me or the others.
Paris B says
Thank you Rin 😀 I like your tip #4! We sometimes underestimate the healing process of good sleep. Our skin and body will thank us for it!
Sue - MakeupMew says
Great beauty philosophies Paris! I’m on the same page with #1, #2, #3 (even for oily skin). Well, with #4. I don’t quite agree.
I spent a great deal of time and energy researching and experimenting with skincare products for my fickle skin. So I am by no means a lazy girl. I’m a true born skincare junkie. It’s in my blood to experiment with different brands. I brand-hop a lot and my skin forced me learn the hard way… instead of piling serum after serum, sometimes less is more, especially for oilier skin types.
My philosophy is less is more when it comes to sensitive and hormonal skin. Lastly, never over cleanse for oily skin.
Paris B says
Oh Sue, you are absolutely right about sensitive skin. Its easy to overdo things trying to find a solution when just going back to basics and keeping things simple may do a better job 🙂 Thanks for sharing 🙂
Jess says
I would agree on your points Paris! I always believe
“Never too late to learn how to take care of our skin. No one can tell you which works best unless you try it yourself.”
Paris B says
Haha Jess you are so right! Its never too late to minimize any damage already done and to hopefully make things better – good points 😀
Catherine says
1. Cleanse your skin thoroughly but as gentle as possible.
2. Use products which really work. (Thats for the ‘I spent so much so I need to end it now’ or ‘Everyone loves it’)
3. Dont observe your skin too long and too closely in mirror (who doesnt get obsessed and doesnt start to squeeze?? Well, I cant)
4. Even if your skin was shiny- apply moisturiser! (Thats my problem, after I end up having dry patches)
+one more! Even if it contains parabens or silicones or fragrance or whatever- if it works for you- dont get too paranoid! 🙂
Paris B says
Ahhh Catherine – a girl after my own heart 😀 I’m so with you on your extra +1 point because I must say I fully agree with what you say. Its easy to get all caught up in the hype these days and to be frightened off products that may actually work for you. SO this is a great great point you brought up 😀
Indira says
mine would be:
1. Clean your face every night (and morning);
2. Use proper skincare;
3. Most of the time, expensive makeup base is better then cheap ones;
4. If you can afford it, splurge on doctor’s office treatment. I had microdermabrasion and chemical peeling; they really worth the money.
Paris B says
#3 – fully agree! I try not to stint on a base unless I can find a really good one that’s affordable like the Bourjois that I like 🙂 As for #4 I didn’t have many good experiences with these sorts of treatments 🙁 Its a pity because I keep hearing of such wonderful results from people who’ve gone for lasers or peels
Jacqueline says
I agree with No. 4. I wake up at 5.20 in the morning to do my makeup. I am known as the biggest vain pot in my work place because I wake up so early to do my full face. My other colleagues prefer the extra snooze time, I prefer to be armed and ready to face the day. 🙂
Paris B says
Wow! 5.20am! 0_0 I’m very impressed because I couldn’t. I am actually really lazy about that which is why I have 10 minute routines hehe… but wow kudos to you. I will agree with you that a good face and knowing you look good can make the day easier to face 🙂
