Bright! Sunny! Yellow!

Ooh my eyes! Let me put on my sunnies icon smile Going Loco with Dior Acapulco : Bright, Sunny Neon yellow nails

Those were my reactions when I took the Dior Vernis in Acapulco out of its box. Seriously, that bottle could almost glow in the dark. It doesn’t, but wouldn’t it be cool if it did? icon biggrin Going Loco with Dior Acapulco : Bright, Sunny Neon yellow nails

Acapulco is one of 4 Dior Vernis shades in the Summer Mix nail and lip collection. I just had to try this on for size because I’ve never worn yellow on my nails before.

I found Acapulco quite interesting. Under yellow lighting, or in the shade, Acapulco actually looks a light yellow which I found quite comfortable to my eyes. I applied it at night, under yellow lighting so I thought “Hmm… this doesn’t look half bad!”

Evidently Jeremy Clarkson doesn’t agree. Actually, that face pretty much sums up by reaction to this colour icon biggrin Going Loco with Dior Acapulco : Bright, Sunny Neon yellow nails

When I woke up the next morning and looked at my nails, it was now a deep bright yellow.

It is the shade of eye-catching yellow synonymous with our Kings and royalty and the star on our Malaysian flag. It was, as my colleague noted, the shade of yellow used by “Bersih” demonstrators (local politics for international readers – gah! Not going there!) icon razz Going Loco with Dior Acapulco : Bright, Sunny Neon yellow nails

There is no way that your nails will go unnoticed because the colour just screams for attention! When typing on the keyboard, is when its most noticeable so if you work in a conservative environment then better reserve this colour for your toes.

I found the texture of Acapulco a little thick. I’m not sure if its just me. Perhaps due to the colour or the texture, 1 coat wasn’t quite sufficient to give an opaque coverage but when I try 2 coats, it looks thick. I also prefer it applied on bare nails without a base although I know that’s not something to encourage. The thick texture does add somewhat to the opaqueness of the colour though so I’m not too fussed about it, but considering I’m not good with using nail polish, I’d say that this one frustrates me easily and if you have the same problem I do with applying polishes well, then it might frustrate you too.

In a nutshell

The Dior Acapulco Vernis nail polish is part of the 4 piece Summer Mix collection of bright nail colours. Acapulco is a bright deep almost neon yellow that is very eye catching on nails and quite perfect for the Summer. I found the texture a bit thick yet applies a little sheer so you will need more layers to get a proper opaque finish to ensure this colour is shown off at its best. If well done, its eye catching. On yellow or sallow skintones, I’d suggest you avoid it.

Pros: Bright eye catching yellow shade, Brush is easy to handle

Cons: Formula is thick but isn’t opaque with one layer

Who will like this: Anyone who is in the market for a very bright yellow nail colour

How are you for yellow nail polish? Dior describes Acapulco as “Acid Yellow” I will have to agree wholeheartedly! I’ve had curious stares at my nails all week LOL! TGIF eh? icon wink Going Loco with Dior Acapulco : Bright, Sunny Neon yellow nails

Traffic stopping colour! I’m sure there are similar colours in other brands. Not sure cos nail polish isn’t quite my thing ;)

Not really into neon colors, they make my fingers look dirty somehow =/
I’m currently wearing yellow nail polish too! Near Beth Experience by MAC, the color is lovely, soft yellow pastel, but the formula sucks big time! :( This is going to be my first and last polish from MAC! >:(

Pity about the Mac formula. It’s my first time using a bright almost neon nail shade and it’s been interesting, maybe bright pink next! :)

It is a very striking yellow indeed! I had a yellow once, but it was from Elianto and it was so goopy and messy to apply I chucked it. Did not have another since then heh heh.

Try Faceshop, they have a yellow nail color at a fraction of the price.

I swatched this the other day and surprised myself by thinking it’s actually quite interesting! I find the formula quite easy to work with. Especially for a yellow it’s amazing. I had set my heart on Saint-Tropez though (which I’m LOVING 100%. Never thought I’d feel that way about a turquoise), so maybe this one won’t come home with me!

I think I’m the only one ambivalent about St. Tropez :P that said, I don’t have any affinity for nail colours which might explain why :D

Did you wear it with pink neon tights and a flourescent green top! *kidding!!*
I’ve not tried yellow polish before myself, but I’m thinking it would show up the *mistakes* clearer, no? Still Saint Tropez for me, without a doubt. :)

I would have if I had any! I did wear it with red shoes and a bright blue top :) I do think yellow may show up streaks more. Tricky formula. Personally I’ve rarely had luck with blue polish formula. They tend to be awful to me in most brands :P i just mentioned to Sunny that I’m probably the only person who is ambivalent about St. Tropez lol

Personally, I think it looks weird on me too, S! I’d never wear a lighter yellow because it makes my skin look jaundiced. But this bright one takes the edge off hehe

Love the colour, it’s so bright! But I think the thick formula would frustrate me too.

The formula is definitely thicker than other Dior polishes I’ve used. But maybe it’s just me ;)

This is not my kind of nail polish. But if I should to choose a yellow on my nails, I would choose something like Chanel Mimosa. It’s not that bright yet still show the summer color :)

That’s well yellow! I can’t quite bring myself to sport striking nail colours as I have hideous nails and I can never paint my nails properly. This shade is definitely not for the faint hearted! :D

I’m very partial to yellow nail polish–but I have an OPI one that looks almost identical to this one, so no, I don’t think I will be splurging for this particular Dior polish! It IS quite pretty though and looks fantastic on you!

I like the colour, but not the price either. (Strangely enough, these are out in the middle of winter here. I could do the blue and the red, but not the yellow as it’s so cold!)
I think I could sport something a little less bright in terms of yellow though.

I love this shade! I have it on now, but I didn’t find the texture thick. In fact, the first 2 coats were still rather sheer. I needed 3 coats to get it opaque. Maybe I used too little? LOL! I’m a nail newb so don’t take my word for it ;-)

I’m crap with polish so you take my word for it either! Haha I found it sheer but thick. Wasn’t too thrilled with it but with Seche Vite as a top coat it’s lasted me over a week with minimal wear and that’s pretty impressive!
