squeeze spots Your Say: What is one beauty dont that you do?

There are tons of beauty don’ts:-

  • Don’t pop pimples
  • Don’t squeeze blackheads
  • Don’t take too much sugar
  • Don’t forget your sunscreen
  • Don’t forget your eyeliner
  • Don’t forget to use toner after cleansing
  • etc … etc …etc…

The list is endless as beauty “guru” after beauty “guru” rolls out their “rules”. And you know what happens with rules right? That’s right – they get broken!

I’m perfectly guilty of popping pimples and squeezing blackheads – I try to resist but sometimes, you know how you look in the mirror and all you can see is that giant blackhead or pimple staring back at you daring you to squeeze it? I give in right about then.

I’m religious about daily sunscreen and I don’t take a lot of sugar because it does not suit my tastebuds. But salty and fried foods? Eeps! Guilty as sin! I do a whole list of things I’m not supposed to but popping pimples is right up there at No. 1

Your Say: What is one beauty don’t do you do anyway because you just can’t help it?

Me too… LOVE squeezing zits and blackheads with a capital LOVE! :P I’m guilty of not using toner as well. Thinking to start using now! Haha!! :P

The upside is that i ALWAYS use sunscreen and i drink lots of water! Yay! :D

LOL! I don’t use toner either. I prefer to use a lotion or a lotion like toner… if that even makes sense :P

one rule i’ve heard: never let your hair soak in a towel after you’ve washed it. sometimes i’m so lazy that i just wrap my hair in a turban and then i forget about it…so i end up catching a chill -_-;;

Ditto. :(

It’s also taken me years to stop popping my zits.

I try to resist… until I can’t any longer then I pop them. Thankfully zits are also fewer and further in between these days :)

Reply

ParisB June 28, 2011 at 2:45 pm

LOL! I sometimes do that too! But I don’t catch a chill. Another I’ve heard is not to sleep with your hair wet or you’ll get a headache. I’ve gone to sleep with my hair wet/damp but all I do is get up with bad hair :P

Damn… I broke every rule out there except the toner one XD;; I’m never fussy on my scars that’s why I keep popping all the pimples like crazy *_*

I always “tweeze” or “pluck” my blackheads…
I have a strawberry nose, so sad…other than plucking them, I have no idea how to remove them. I have been trying various products but to no avail.

You know, I’ve seen a little scrubbing glove like thing at Daiso – its got these gentle silicone bits that you can rub against your skin – like a manual clarisonic. Try that maybe? ;)

I love squeezing pimples! But so far i’ve been lucky there are no major scars. I felt cleaner after i pop it. if i leave it alone i am worried it will stay “dirty” even after it dried up. What do you think?

Reply

ParisB June 28, 2011 at 2:48 pm

I don’t get many these days *touch wood* but when I do see a ripe spot, I pop. If its cystic I usually try not to touch it as that usually makes it worse.

Squeezing pimples should be a national past time!! I actually find that them zits go away faster after they’re popped. As for blackheads, I use an extractor, heh heh heh

Ripe zits do heal faster once popped. But cystic ones can get worse if irritated. That’s what I’ve found anyway :)

“…I don’t take a lot of sugar because it does not suit my tastebuds. But salty and fried foods?… ”

something to share. I am taking chinese medicine course. According to my sifu, our body is very special, it will auto-react, eg when we feel sleepy, we tend to take sour stuff to stay awake, as proper sour intake is good for liver. sweetness corresponding to stomach. salty to kidney. if we auto-respond to salty food, means kidney is ‘asking for help’. but giving lot’s of salt is not a good solution.

but, i think i need to ask my sifu, wat drives us to love fried food so much!

anyway, just something to share.

ParisB June 28, 2011 at 2:50 pm

That’s interesting. I’ve always been more towards savoury foods than sweet since forever :)

Love eating sweet, spicy, oily food. Guess that’s why I always need to go on a diet D:

I try not to squeeze pimples but sometimes they cone out of their own, especially when I wash my face.

I don’t believe in the toner rule anyway, more partial to the Japanese lotion instead. Sometimes I wonder if all these different types of skin are nothing more than a marketing poly for variations of normal skin. Like these categories only arose with the advent of estee lauded and Helena rubenstein, when they were building their dkincare/cosmetics empire =P I think that I’m just bitter that all those years of using acne prone and oily skin products have just left me with more oily skin that is dehydrated on the surface. I don’t even get the sole advantage of oily skin, which is less wrinkles as time pass by D: Just using intensive moisturizers and serums to try to replenish my surface moisture now.

ParisB June 28, 2011 at 2:52 pm

Ahem – are you sure they come out on their own? ;) Actually I think extracting blackheads is better done after a warm shower anyway. At least our pores are open and relaxed and they are easier to pop (and possibly leaves less scars too?) I don’t do toner either. Haven’t used a western style toner (meant for clarifying) for years :D I think every brand has something to sell – even the Japanese ;) We just have to work with whatever suits us better.

Not bothering with mascara and concealer. Apparently it’s a big boo boo here, but really, I’m just not arsed :P

Reply

ParisB June 28, 2011 at 2:57 pm

Seriously? I sometimes forget mascara but I don’t usually forget concealer coz of the pigmentation. However, I’ve recently discovered I can do without, but using just liquid foundation and powder. Been experimenting and saving a ton of time (and potentially money!)

Extracting black heads and pimples! Gosh, who can resist?? End up looking horrible after that, but it’s just too tempting. Besides, who’s got time to go for a facial every week? LOL

Reply

ParisB June 28, 2011 at 2:59 pm

The only consolation I have is that I have less to squeeze these days, which makes it less awful :) But yes, we can’t afford to head for professional extractions all the time :P Some things can and should be DIYed

Squeezing pimples! *guilty* I get conscious because I usually have quite a clear face so when I get a pimple it’s terribly huge. What’s worse is the pus is quite disgusting to look at. The few times I tried to be good and not pop it, I realised that the people I was talking to were completely distracted just staring at it! I even had a guy friend ask me “how can you stand not squeezing it!? I want to squeeze it for you so so badly!!!”

Now, I just squeeze it because I think it heals faster that way anyways :/

Reply

ParisB June 28, 2011 at 3:00 pm

Haha… sometimes I do agree it helps the spot heal more quickly. its like you’ve gotten rid of the offending dirt so it can only get better!

I don’t moisturize my body as much as I should. I’m really dry! I’m trying to drink more water, and I eat a lot of sweet and salty food. I rub my eyes. Gah, there are so much more that I do but shouldn’t!! :)

Hahah, I only pop pimples on my forehead since the I realize I don’t get scars there. :p Squeeze blackheads?! Well, rarely. Only when I’m bored in school LOLOL SPF comes with the BB cream I’m using so I can consider that as ‘sunscreen’

And, not using a toner is not a ‘don’t’! I’ve read before that a toner is not really necesarry. :

Reply

ParisB June 28, 2011 at 3:01 pm

Toner depends on the school of thought you subscribe to. I don’t subscribe to the toner school of thought so I don’t use it :) For me, its not a “don’t” either, but for some it is :)

Reply

meipinggg June 28, 2011 at 4:33 pm

But it does depend on what kind of toner right? The ‘american’ toner and the ‘asian’ toner. :p I have one of both(Simple, and HadaLabo) and well, I rarely use them both. :x

Reply

ParisB June 28, 2011 at 4:36 pm

Personally I’d say its a matter of personal preference. I like Asian brand “toner/lotions” because I feel they help increase my skin moisture level. I have stopped using Western or clarifying toners because I just don’t like how it feels. Ultimately, its down to personal preference as I’ve summarized here. If you feel its doing nothing for you, then it probably isn’t :)

Reply

gio June 28, 2011 at 2:32 pm

I never use toner after cleansing. But then I don’t think I need it as I couldn’t see any benefits when I applied it in the past.
