Here’s Mystery Item #2 of the mystery items I bought at Sasa one dull day. It was quite an easy one 🙂
I think the microfibre material was a dead giveaway don’t you think? Its a towel… but what sort of towel? Ah… that’s what the mystery is! 😀
Answer: Hair Drying Towel/turban – RM9.90
What it is, is a cap at one end and a long “tail” at the other end. Slip the “cap” over your head, with the long “tail” facing forward, bundle up your hair into it, twist the “tail” end and button it at the back of your head to hold it in place. The idea is for it to hold your wet hair after washing and to help it dry more quickly.
Is it ideal? Only if you have a lot of hair or long hair. On my short hair, I found myself wrestling to put it on and ensuring all my wet hair was covered, and my hair was too short to twist up fully so there was too much excess material and it could move around and loosen.
It was easier to use than twisting up my hair in my bath towel as I usually do and it did seem to dry my hair more than by just rubbing it with my towel. Rubbing your hair with a towel can cause your hair to tangle up more. With this, you don’t have that problem.
I think it was a worthwhile purchase 🙂

Hair Drying Towel/Turban was purchased at RM9.90 at a Sasa store. There is no brand/name. It came packed in a clear plastic bag.

This is interesting! I’ve just only discovered how useful turban-ing my hair up can be on rushed mornings. 😛 Does it dry your hair faster if compared to normal bath towels (which could be damp after shower)?
ParisB says
For me, yes. I wrap it up immediately after washing so its pretty much dripping when wrapped. When I unwrap my hair, its as dry as it is as if I were to rub a towel vigorously over my head and then turban up, which usually causes my hair to tangle up. I wonder if that sentence even made sense 😛
Foong Jin says
Haha! I get what you mean. That’s what I usually do too, rub vigorously till hair is slightly dry, then wrap it up. I’ll give this a shot since it eliminates the rubbing part completely! 😀 Thanks for blogging about it! I would never have discovered this otherwise!
ParisB says
Yay for learning something new! I hope it will work for you 🙂

Just don’t forget to remove it before your hair dries down! I have thick long hair, and sometimes I’ll actually forget I have my hair up in the turban thingy until by the time I remove the towel, my hair’s dried to weird curls =/
I believe night market goers would be able to find them too, but at only a slightly cheaper price at most (I got mine for RM8 each)
ParisB says
haha good tip! Although curls would be fun though 😀 I usually have mine up until after I’m done with my skincare then I blow dry before bed so no fear of forgetting 🙂

heh. i got one too! 😀 in green. but i got mine free from buying a darlie toothpaste :X
but it didnt seem to work on me(mid length hair) ):
ParisB says
Hmm… maybe its the material? This one’s a microfibre cloth.

Hmm… this looks like an item that actually might be of use for me… 😛
ParisB says
With long hair, I think its certainly very useful!

That’s another good thing to have!! I’m writing a list of ‘what to buy’ for my trip to Malaysia in May. I’m going home again after 2 1/2 months… 😀 I can’t wait! I’m more excited with the shopping this time cuz we’re going with my in-laws, 4 of us can carry up to 80kg, I’m sure 50kg will be my stuffs – cosmetics + skin care + food!
ParisB says
Teeheee… yes yes make sure there’s lots of space for your shopping! 😀 And your tummy for lots of food! 😀

oh i love this towel! i like how the button works in the front like that. I always think that I look like a singh whenever I wash my hair and now you are one too. LOL
cute posts. I guessed the first mysterious item correctly! 😛
ParisB says

bought from cosway for RM6.90. what a steal!
it does really cut the time for drying my hair and I so love it, I’m thinking of buying another 3 for my mom and sisters
ParisB says
Oh nice! 🙂 Its very useful for sure!

I used it when I need to “steam” my hair a bit in hair mask. Works wonderful! And it helps as I move about with usual chores, at least the hair don’t “fall over” as with normal bath towel.
You may want to add a stitch or 2 to the button. Mine fall off after repeated wash. Good thing I have a spare. Bought mine long ago in pasar malam too. Er.. RM10 or 15 for 2 i guess.
ParisB says
Thanks for the tip! You’re right that it doesn’t move around as much as with a towel and its a lot lighter on the head too 😀
Kahani says
Do you put it on by flipping your head forward with the button at the nape of your neck? Then twist it tightly at the forhead and keep twisting until it’s bunched up enough to be tight against the button. =)
ParisB says
Yup I do that. I just don’t have enough hair to “tighten” it – on your hair it’d be a piece of cake! 🙂

I saw this retailing online for some crazy price.. forgot what it was but definitely not the price you got it for at Sasa.
I don’t own one but when I saw it, I thought it was a great idea bec I’m not so clever with the towels and sometimes they unravel before it’s time. With the button, you know it’d stay in place.
