Quick thoughts on the Topshop Makeup line and my pick is the Topshop Cream Blush

I got a couple of emails asking me if I knew anything about the Topshop Makeup that’s apparently available here at Topshop KLCC. I haven’t had the time to run down to take a look, but I have seen the Topshop Makeup line during my last trip to London so I do have some views on it.

To be perfectly honest, I wasn’t impressed with most of what I saw. The eyeshadows were chalky and sheer, lipsticks were dry and to sum it in a word, it was ho-hum. Ok maybe that’s 2 words? 😉

But all that said, I did pick up 2 items – the Topshop cream blush, because when I read the reviews on the line when it was first launched, the cream blushes were raved about. Also, I am a blush fiend so naturally I gravitated towards the blushes 😀

Another impression of the Topshop Makeup line was that it was grubby 😛 In the Topshop stores in London, the makeup was all willy nilly, and the testers looked like people were digging into them with a spatula and not cleaning up after themselves after that. It was not a pleasant experience. I hope the counters here are cleaner in that regard.

All that said, I liked the packaging. It was clean and sleek without all that brittle plastic you see cheap makeup come in, because the Topshop Makeup line is pretty affordable :)

I might update if I stroll down to KLCC some day and pop into Topshop but until then, here’s my review on the Topshop Makeup cream blush in Flush and Neon Rose.

If I’m not mistaken, I paid £6 each for these 2 cream blushes. Cream blushes aren’t really my thing but for some reason, and due to the online raves I’d read, I thought it was worth a try. I’m happy to tell you the raves are not misplaced :)

Here’s the main thing I like about the Topshop cream blushes. They are not too oily nor creamy. In our tropical heat, they do not melt nor does it “sweat”. Can I hear a yay!

It, in fact, feels a bit dry to the touch, but I like that because that means that it does not slip and slide all over the place on my skin. The 2 colours I picked are the deeper shades. The reason I picked these is because these cream blushes go on very much sheerer than they really look. They look really scary in the pan, but on the skin, it sheers out to a lovely flush.

I use my fingers to apply these blushes. I use the pads of my 3rd and 4th fingers to swipe the blush, and then pat it on my cheeks, blending as I go. It blends easily and sheers out quite a lot so you do have to layer to get a pretty flush. I think I patted on at least 3 layers in the picture and its still so light! The light pinks barely showed up on my skin but if you are very very fair, it might. Here is my vain attempt at describing the colours I own.

  • Flush – Pink peach
  • Neon Rose – Peachy rose pink

On my normal-dry skin it stays on for the most part of the day. When I run around outside or sweat then it does slide off more quickly but if you use it and are office bound, you get decent staying power. If you’d like it to stay on more, dab on some powder blush over it.

I like that the warm pinks I’ve chosen are easy to use and are generally a good shade for me so I have made this blush a staple in my travel makeup kit. Its so easy when you can travel without having to carry a blush brush! Just tap, blend and go. I like that :)

Pros: Not oily or too creamy, Does not melt in our tropical heat, Easy to blend, Sheer colours, Sleek packaging

Cons: Staying power might vary, light colours are too sheer to show up on skin

Here’s the ubiquitious look at the ingredient list of the cream blushes and a picture to show you that the white packaging does get grubby very quickly.

So if you are going to check out the Topshop Makeup line, do give the cream blushes a look. I think they are great for the price, and perfect for novices because it isn’t all slippery and slidy and ick :) Let me know how you like it k?

Topshop cream blushes retail at £6 each. You can view them on topshop.com and if rumours are right, you can purchase them at Topshop stores in KLCC and possibly other outlets too. Cream blush is RM33.

I’m not impressed with Topshop Makeup too. Agree with u the lipstick is too dry. The only thing that i like is their pencil eye liner. That’s all..

Oh I did belatedly learn that their pencil liners were decent stuff. Glad you found one thing worth looking at LOL! 😀

Great review – now am lemming for the cream blush :) I agree that nothing else looked super interesting besides the eye liners. I also dislike the packaging, it is paper-ish so it attracts dirt, finger smudges very easily.

The cream blushes are nice! But only the 2 I picked which are the brighter shades. The rest swatched as nothing, or brown. Very strange. The packaging was paper? That’s odd. My blushes come in a plastic case but it is one of those plastic cases that allow smudges to stick to it, which is ick!

It’s not quite paper but feels like paper on top of the pencil? I bought a pencil on Saturday but a few days later it looks really grungy.

Btw there are only 2 shades of cream blush available at KLCC right now. One of the pinks and a brown/peach. Did not spot the dual e/s, it’s all only one two-sided rack so not all products will be available.

ahhh… you meant the pencil! 😀 I guess it’ll take a while before the whole range comes in here. The full range is huge!

Agree with the previous comments that the kohl and pencil eyeliners are great stuff… Cheap and good! :) Didn’t manage to get cream blushes in Topshop Sg as they were out of stock!

OMG…Topshop makeup available in Malaysia? Wow~ But dont think I wanna try them out based on the reviews XD
Anyways, what do you think of Forever21 makeup line? Oh by the ways, I noticed I always follow up all the new things from your blog or else I’m lost, haha thanks! *blush*

ParisB December 13, 2010 at 1:02 pm

Glad the blog’s been of help! Hope you don’t go broke hehe… 😉 I haven’t come across Forever 21’s makeup actually. I didn’t think much of H&M that’s for sure.

Haven’t heard much good things about Topshop’s makeup….I’ll pass on it though, need to save some serious moolah….(I always say that, somehow will succumb) Hehehe.

ParisB December 13, 2010 at 1:03 pm

Teeheee… yes yes you can save on this one. Nothing spectacular… yet 😉

I was very excited when I first heard Topshop was launching a makeup range but judging from the reviews I’ve read their products aren’t anything special. :( I’d love to try their cream blushes though. The colors are very pretty and because I have pale skin, I like my blushes sheer.

I think one of the light pinks would look beautiful on you especially because you have pale skin :) I think Flush would be pretty on you actually. I think we might have to give them some time to stand on their feet. Hopefully it just gets better 😉

Heee~~ My finals end tomorrow morning, so I’m trying to schedule my time so I can drop by Topshop KLCC to check out the makeup 😀 Been lemming for the cream blushes ever since I saw all the raves 😀 Hopefully they aren’t marked up too much here, but from what I’ve heard so far (on other items) they seem to be decently priced, cheap even for Topshop standard.

From what I’ve heard, only the KLCC branch has the makeup line. Hopefully they’ll expand soon :)

ParisB December 14, 2010 at 10:27 am

Ah… thanks for the info! I do hope they open more counters soon too. Do let us know what you eventually pick up from Topshop k? :)

but the nail polishes of them are really nice. Great quality. They have a great range of colours, and they are almost same as what you see through the glass. The price is quite high for a nail polish though myr36 each. But you’ll get discount for two bottles. Worth trying!
