“Pay RM200 for a tub of hair mask? You gotta be joking!” I cried when told the price of the Kerastase Oleo Relax Anti-Frizz Hair Mask. I’ll do nicely with Brand X thank you!
That was me maybe a year ago. 6 months ago or thereabouts, I had a case of horrible dry, frizzy, unmanageable hair. It was so bad that when I combed my hair, my comb would get stuck. So after I lost enough combs to the wilderness of my hair and after getting fed up with the “helmet hair” look, I caved and sought out the Kerastase Oleo Relax Anti-Frizz Smoothing Hair Mask for dry and rebellious hair. It was a fair description of my hair – my hair was staging a rebellion all by itself! I purchased mine online… as I do 😛
I put it to work the very day it arrived. I mean, it cost me about RM200 a 200ml tub. That’s RM1 for every 1 ml! It better work 😛
Its got a nice smell. Its a very strong scent that makes me think of a mixture of fruits. It is VERY strong but I like it. For some reason I find it relaxing. The texture too is more liquid and not solid or thick like some other hair masks I’ve used.
It being a hair mask, I used it in place of conditioner after shampooing my hair. I left it on for about 8 minutes or so while I took my time showering, and then washed it out. That night, for the first time in weeks, I did not have trouble combing my hair.
I used this hair mask for 3-4 days consecutively. It was not until I tweeted about it, and Nikki of AskMeWhats mentioned that that was expensive stuff I was putting on my hair nightly, that I came to my senses and cut back. But I think that initial intensive nightly treatment helped, because my hair was lovely and swishable again without standing at right angles to my head.
Also, I found that I did not have to use very much. When I first started, I scooped out a nice big handful but now, I don’t use that much anymore. Perhaps as much as the tips of my fingers can scoop out, worked into the hair from mid-shaft to tip where they are driest and most frizzy. Having short hair is of course, a bonus 😛
I now use the Oleo Relax Anti-Frizz hair mask about once a week, usually on my pampering Sundays. Sometimes, when I’m feeling oh-so-decadent, I’ll use it twice a week! *gasp* And wonders of all wonders, this tub is now nearing the finishing point. Hurrah!
Pros: Repaired my stiff frizzy hair, Keeps my hair soft and tangle free from the first use, Smells lovely
Cons: Expensive!
I spoke to a hairdresser at one of the salons I visited recently and he told me that if I wanted, I could use the Oleo Relax Slim instead. Its a lighter formula for hair that isn’t so badly frizzy but I didn’t come across many good reviews for that one so I might just stick with this one 😛
For someone who used to use salon brand hair care, Kerastase was like the pinnacle of luxury hair care. A brand I always coveted from afar, never daring to get too near. After all, I figured, how much different can expensive hair care be compared to regular hair care?
A lot, I’ve since learnt. I’ve tried a couple of other Kerastase hair treatments by now but Oleo Relax has a special place in my heart because you know, you never ever forget your first love 😉 Nor your first foray into the dangerous, forbidden world of expensive hair care products. Sigh…
Are you a Kerastase user? I know of a few who are and who swear by it. I’m not there yet, but who knows eh? I think I gotta replenish my Oleo Relax hair mask soon 🙂

You can find Kerastase at Strawberrynet. I don’t really bother much about shampoo so I use anything out there. But one that I have tried recently that is quite nice is the L’Oreal Professional Mythic Oil series. You can find them in a L’Oreal Professional hair salon
