Out with the new and in with the old : Delights from Mom’s Closet

Yes lovelies, you read that right. Out with the new, in with the old!

envelope clutch

I was rooting through Mum’s old stuff and came across an envelope clutch/sling bag she did not use anymore. I’d been on the hunt for an oversized clutch for a while so this came in very handy!

A touch of leather cleaner and polish later, its all good!

Its nothing crazy spectacular. Just a simple leather large envelope clutch that has a sling strap that I can take cross body if I wanted to, or that I can detach to use it just as a clutch. Its quite slim so it doesn’t quite fit my fat wallet, but I make it. Just :P

Its perfect for weekends and for casual chit chats. Good worn with a dress or with jeans. Did not cost me a sen and had Mom smiling away that some old thing of hers is seeing the light of day again :)

Have you dug through your Mom’s closet lately? :D

The clutch is gorgeous! I especially love the strap that comes with it ‘cos I usually see envelope clutches without straps. My mom keeps commenting on how what used to be fashionable when she was younger is back but unfortunately, if she had kept her stuff, I wouldn’t be able to snag them anyway seeing I’m at least a good 5-6 inches taller that she is!

How do you guys keep your bags and clothes in such pristine condition for so long? I always end up with spots on my clothes and patchy white stuff (I know…. sounds disgusting! =D) on my bags and shoes after storing them for a while despite keeping them in their covers and stuffing dehumidifiers in my closet!

Thanks I love the clutch too! For leather, the best way to keep it, is to use it. That way bacteria and mould does not have the chance to grow (that’s what the patchy white stuff is) If you don’t want to use them all the time, take them out every few months to air and clean them with leather cleaner or moisturizer and let it dry thoroughly before storing again.

LOL… yeah, my mom is like Xin’s mom… she doesn’t keep anything at all! In fact, for me its the other way around… she tells me, whatever I don’t want or don’t use anymore, she’ll take it! :P

Haha ok I will and my mom is a hoarder. She’s tossed out quite a few things though she keeps her bags… just in case.

Yea, I do dig my mom’s closet. In fact I found a bag which was decorated with floral patterns on it and started wearing it to school. Eventually few months later the bag was on trend and basically everyone started wearing them.

That clutch is gorgeous! You make me wanna dig into my mum’s old closet to see if I can find some nice things. I don’t think she has a lot of old things left though.

You never know just what you might find! I only wish I was good with a needle so I can use her originally retro clothes :P But then again, she was a LOT skinner than I am :P

haha the weird part is, it is a reverse scenario for my mom and i… it would be her to raid my closet for old stuff i don’t use anymore ;P

The clutch reminds me of Anya Hindmarch’s Nadja reversible envelope clutch… you lucked out :)

I “traded” my mom’s tights and vauderville T shirt which I wear with my “new” tights and a pair of chucks (converses). I gave her my old sports socks that I don’t wear. She claims they are comfy and warm, perfect for sleeping in.
