Guerlain Super Aqua Triple Protection Shield SPF30 – Yes its moisturizer and sunscreen

This is my first foray into Guerlain skincare. The Skin Aqua series is targeted at moisturising the skin (Aqua should tip the nod!) while imparting anti-free radical effects to help with anti-aging. When I was handed the new Guerlain Super Aqua Triple Protection Shield SPF30 cream, and told that its a sunscreen cum moisturizer, I looked a little sceptical.

Before I go into its sun protection qualities, let me tell you how this one feels.

The Guerlain Super Aqua Triple Protection Shield comes in a tube and I thought that was it. Open, squeeze, apply and go. But not quite. The gold metal cap actually covers a pump mechanism which I initially though “Eh?!” But am now happy with it.

1 pump (no more than that please!) is more than sufficient to deliver lasting moisture to your skin with a silky satin touch. I initially thought that 1 pump was too little but any more than 1 pump and it feels too heavy on the skin.

Scent wise, like most things Guerlain or from the French powerhouses of cosmetics, there is a strong fragrance. Its actually quite nice – smells of roses and does not linger on the skin.

I might even venture a suggestion that the use of this cream (together with a couple of other stuff) might have helped my skin lately. My skin was feeling dry in the day time and foundation had a tendency to flake; but after about a month, I’ve realised that my skin’s now feeling more moisturised in the day and my foundation stays on better.

As for the sunscreen factor, the active ingredients listed on the back on the tube are octinoxate, oxybenzone, titanium dioxide, octocrylene and sulisobenzone. It states a SPF30 sun protection with UVA and UVB protection and despite the presence of titanium dioxide, it is not drying nor does it leave a white cast on the skin.

It could be enough  for some people but I always apply a separate sunscreen because I prefer it that way. Because the Guerlain Super Aqua cream is so light, I don’t feel that using 2 creams in the day is heavy. Or might it be that I’m just used to it? icon smile Guerlain Super Aqua Triple Protection Shield SPF30 Yes its moisturizer and sunscreen

Being by Guerlain, don’t expect it to come cheap. A 40ml tube retails at RM319.

Pros: Lightweight texture, Absorbs into skin quickly, Keeps skin moisturized, Contains sunscreen protection, No white cast

Cons: Expensive

I’m told that the Guerlain Super Aqua series is suitable for most skin types with emphasis on those who prefer moisturizing properties with anti-aging benefits.

I do like this cream and I can expect a tube to last a long long time. If you have the budget, its worth a shot! icon wink Guerlain Super Aqua Triple Protection Shield SPF30 Yes its moisturizer and sunscreen

It all sounds good….until the moment you revealed the price :( RM319 for something I would use everyday is way too expensive to maintain :/

ParisB June 24, 2010 at 10:43 am

Yup! I felt that way too until I realized that with the amount you use, a tube can actually last you months – I’d hazard a guess at at least 4-5 months coz you only use it once a day. :)

sigh…how i wish my skin would be kind enough to me to let me try many skincare stuff without breaking out the fireworks like it’s merdeka day. but this does sound good…might wanna give it a try especially since my Kanebo White Blanchir had to go n revamp itself into “DEEP” milky conditioner when i was previously using the non-DEEP type. anything DEEP is not good for my face, guess my skin suits my shallow personality. huahuahua!

ParisB June 24, 2010 at 10:43 am

Did Kanebo revamp the Blanchir line? I left it a while already since it stopped working for me.

yup they did! the bottles all newly shaped and with slightly modified names. dats why im scared to repurchase. =( i just bought RMK Skintuner Moist tho…altho i’m skeptical abt it providing enough moisture for my face, even using it with madara deep comfort toner. what do you think, Paris?

ParisB June 25, 2010 at 10:10 am

I’ve never tried the RMK one but I found the Madara sufficient coz I do follow up with moisturizer and everything’s great. Hope you find a combination that works!

I have exactly the same condition as you, by mid day my face starts to flake. I have been looking for something which can moisturise/hydrate my skin the whole day and when I read your review, I thought finally – UNTIL I saw the price tag. Waaaay! too expensive for me. : (

ParisB June 24, 2010 at 10:44 am

Yup I felt this one helped with the flakiness – foundation and makeup stays on so much better now. But yep! Price is certainly an ouch factor!

I literally gagged at the price!! :O

This sounds wonderful though!! I hope that they will release a SPF50 version soon!! :D Any less and my freckles will have a field day reproducing themselves on my cheekbones!

ParisB June 24, 2010 at 10:45 am

Personally, I think SPF50 will make it too thick to be comfortable. And in Europe they seem to think SPF30 is sufficient for them :P I slap on extra sunscreen so I never quite care how much SPF a moisturizer contains LOL!

Woah expensive! But it looks like a great product so I’ll give it a try. BTW I bought the Meteorites miniatures at duty-free and I am becoming a fan, thanks to you. Will be posting a review and linking back to your entry : )

ParisB June 24, 2010 at 11:45 am

Thank you sweetheart! :) I’m happy you are loving the meteorites as much as I do – we’re slowly turning into a small Meteorite-d community! LOL…

hello, your review is very helpful. i would like to know if the ingredients list methylparaben? thanks!

ParisB June 24, 2010 at 12:15 pm

I will have to check and see if I kept the box that lists the ingredients or if I have the info somewhere.

This sounds wonderful! I’m tempted to try it but the high price puts me off a bit. :(

wow,it must had burnt your pocket a big hole right???

germaine August 1, 2010 at 12:10 am

hello! i was given a sample of this after buying the meteorites compact and primer (with the pink pearls), which i love for its glow and you should totally get it if you haven’t already, and when i used the moisturizer in conjunction with the primer and pearls i was really impressed – kept my skin supple and soft and the oilies at bay! but then i looked at the ingredients and realized that there’s oxybenzone in there, which is supposed to be harmful for the skin – gets absorbed into the body and promotes free radicals and all – so heads up on that! i don’t know at what percentage oxybenzone would be harmful, i think 3% might still be okay, but just beware of that! it’s really too bad because i was thisclose to getting this, i’m a big fan of guerlain products too! :)
