Shu Uemura Brow Atelier – Brow Shaping and Trimming Service

by Paris B on June 25, 2010 · 49 comments

Many years ago, my introduction to Shu Uemura came in the form of a few basic items :-

I was also aware that Shu Uemura had a brow trimming service but I had not availed of it, having it sit somewhere on the fringe of my consciousness. When friends asked me where they could go for brow trimming, I did send them in the direction of Shu Uemura – I just never experienced it for myself.

So when Shu Uemura introduced their International Accredited Artist and Brow Stylist – Lisa Yap, I sat myself in the tester seat. Crazy unruly brows be gone! *waves magic wand*

I don’t shape my own brows – I usually leave it to whoever does my facials to trim away the stray hairs. So, it was my first time having my brows trimmed while I was sitting upright – quite unnerving :P

They don’t use an eyebrow shaver at Shu Uemura – they use tweezers. I’m not too sensitive to the pain so I was perfectly alright with the plucking. After a few minutes of tweezing, snipping and shaping, I ended up with is supposed to be a brow shape to suit my face and lifestyle.

Yes, they do chat a bit to you to find out what you do, so you get something suitable. No point having your brows give you a docile look when your job is in human resources and primarily in firing staff! I did want that to be honest – it will be a lovely surprise for people to think you docile and then you go and snap them in the rear. Whee! :D

I did end up with something a little more severe then I’m used to. It was all good though coz after my brows grew out a little, everything was great! I think brows are like hair – they look good but not quite great the first day you style or cut it, but give it a while to grow out and they look much better.

Brow upkeep involves having them tweezed and maintained every 3-4 weeks to maintain your optimum shape. I have been so busy, I’ve only tweezed away stray hairs since the shaping, and the ol’ brows are now out of shape. Eeks!

Brow Atelier is available at all Shu Uemura counters and boutiques. The brow maestro Lisa Yap is based at the Shu Uemura boutique in MidValley Megamall and is available by appointment – maestro ma! ;) Call 03-2287 1764 for appointment.

Have you used the Brow Atelier service at Shu Uemura before or will you give it a shot?

Paris B

Prices at the Shu Uemura Brow Atelier are RM30 (brow reshaping), RM20 (brow upkeep) and RM50 (Lisa’s charges) Not too pricey right?!

So nice!!! Don’t see anything wrong with it leh!! :D I’ve heard so much about the brow shaping service at Shu but never tried it before!

Lucky you who can stretch your brow upkeep to once every 3-4 weeks. Give me 5 days and mine will turn into a jungle up there… >.<

I tweeze stray hairs in between but I don’t trim so by the time I need shaping, you gotta hack through it with a parang :P

she is my all time favourite…for the past 2 year my brows were trim by her but i don’t go so frequent because:
1.no time
2.expensive
thus sumtime i will trim my eyebrow myself but definitely not as good as her..
the most significant difference frm Lisa and other brow master is that the resulting eyebrow is not flat or straight, it has i nice curve up to the crease..(I haven’t found anyone who can do it like her yet)
she’s awesome..

She certainly is talented in this field! Glad to hear that you liked her touch too

I’ve heard so much about the brow shaping service at Shu Uemura, but never tried it myself. I’ve got to give it a try soon, but need to grow out my brows a bit more first. =P

Yes! Definitely let it go wild then get it shaped – the difference is quite something! :)

Yup coz she’s the Brow Master hehe… If you see me now you’d never think I had my brows shaped coz its back to being a mess :(

Very nice and neat indeed!!

I too had tried Shu Uemura brow service once… and I think they’re superb! For the price , I think it’s okay as it’s easily available in shopping centres.

For maintenance , I too just pluck off the stray hairs so that I don’t need to go there so very often! But I always ended up with some stubble (which could be unsightly) hahaha..

ParisB June 25, 2010 at 10:28 am

I don’t know how much people usually charge for brow shaping/trimming so for me I thought the prices were quite affordable – its like cutting your hair – you gotta pay to get a good haircut ;) I pluck stubble but I guess its alright coz I’m not very hairy to start with hehe

Babe, I think they look gorgeous! I recently had my eyebrows waxed and shaped…and I think they look good that way too!
So was it RM50 + RM30 for your eyebrow shaping?

Reply

ParisB June 25, 2010 at 10:29 am

Nope, its RM50 if you use Lisa and its RM30 if you go with the regular BAs. Sorry for the confusion!

Oooh… the maestro charges more? Gosh… I’m quite happy to stick to any consultant at Shu (don’t have a fixed favorite) and like you, I do my own stray hair upkeep during the week so I can stretch out my brow sessions to about 3 – 4 weeks before I start to look really messy. Shu saved my brows! Ahahaha. :P

ParisB June 25, 2010 at 10:30 am

Ya – gotta pay more to have the maestro’s touch! ;) I actually can’t afford the time more likely so I pluck but don’t trim (coz I don’t know how to :P )

shuaddict June 25, 2010 at 10:17 am

I tried it once. Much prefer to get brows waxed with hard wax instead of this since sometimes they shave stray hairs with the little blade – along with tweezing. It’s good to go to get brows reshaped.

shuaddict June 25, 2010 at 10:18 am

Ooh forgot to say that the before and after pictures are just so stark. Stunning difference!

Reply

ParisB June 25, 2010 at 10:31 am

Yup – purposely let brows go wild and crazy else not “worth it” right? ;)

Reply

ParisB June 25, 2010 at 10:30 am

That’s what I liked with Shu – no shaving! I detest those who use the shaver because I detest the stubble that arises thereafter! I haven’t tried waxing. That’ll be something new!

Reply

shuaddict June 25, 2010 at 10:59 am

That’s odd. The Shu brow service was the one with the shaver, actually just a small blade – like the 20 sen metal ones from school! Guess it’s up to the MUA and their technique. I have quite sparse brows so was so afraid she’d shave too much off with that blade.

Reply

ParisB June 25, 2010 at 11:03 am

Hmm you could be right. Perhaps different MUAs prefer different tools. Blades scare me too coz I’m so afraid they’d cut me :P

Jo June 25, 2010 at 10:18 am

Wow those brows look great! How do we make an appointment with her?

ParisB June 25, 2010 at 10:31 am

Sorry for the omission I’ve included the number to the MV boutique 03-2287 1764 and ask for Lisa and tell her you read about her magic touch here! hehe

She did a great job on you! Love it! Well groomed brows are a must! I used to have unruly brows but ever since I started plucking and shaping in Form 5, over the years the strays never grew back so I’m lucky my brow stays the same more or less. Otherwise I personally find it expensive if I have to trim my brows at RM50 every week or two :P But I LOVE LOVE LOVE the gel-pot brow thingy from Shu, I use it everyday!

Reply

ParisB June 25, 2010 at 10:33 am

I can’t trim/shape to save my life (tried once and whoa! Not a pretty sight!) Lucky for me I’m not very “hairy” so the brows don’t grow wild so quickly. I saw that gel brow thing at Shu – looked interesting for sure! I go with their pencil though only because its just quicker and easier ;)

Hmm.. Have been doing my brows at Shu on alternate months (i alternate between Shu and threading) and the SA at the 1U outlet never mentioned having 2 different types of brow services. I just get charged RM20. Shall ask them what’s the diff the next time I go. Or are the special Brow Atelier services only at certain Shu outlets?

Everytime I get my brows done, I feel more like a woman!

Reply

ParisB June 25, 2010 at 10:48 am

Hey Hsu Jen, Brow Atelier is just their name for brow shaping services :) You are probably charged RM20 because its a trim and not a total reshape. If you have crazy wild brows like I had, that’s a reshape (coz there’s no shape to it!) But since you keep your brows threaded in between trims at Shu, it’ll be a trim at RM20 :D The only real difference is in getting Lisa’s services which will set you back RM50

Reply

Jo June 25, 2010 at 11:01 am

Does Lisa charge the same irrespective of whether it is for brow reshaping or brow upkeep?

Reply

ParisB June 25, 2010 at 11:03 am

Yes I believe so although I might be mistaken – do ask if you plan to make an appointment :)

Reply

Jen June 25, 2010 at 1:00 pm

Oh, I see. Yea, I probably dont need my brows reshaped much. But oh, how threading and tweezing hurts because I have pretty thick eyebrow hair. Only plus side? I definitely dont have to use an eyebrow pencil. Ever. And people still think I draw my eyebrows on everyday.

The folks at 1U have no probs using a razor for brow shaping. My hands and feet go cold everytime she starts hacking away.

Wah, like your brows! Very nicely shaped :)
I had mine done 2 weeks ago at MV too, by Peggie.

I think I’ll stick to threading because deep down, I cannot bring myself to pay so much for my brows. If only I could learn to thread my own brows… :P

I’ll only think of trying this only if I got spare change… or if someone is sponsoring.

But good on you, and good to know :D

Reply

ParisB June 25, 2010 at 12:05 pm

hehe… just like I’d never cut my own hair, I find it impossible to do my own brows (in case I make a mistake) If someone else does it for me, I have someone else to blame hehe… ;) I haven’t tried threading. Its probably next on my “to try” list

She’s excellent though–love! Your brows are awesome!

love the perfect shape! i never tried shu service too. usually i get my brows trimmed during facials or threading. :) i hate the pain of plucking or threading but they are much better than shaving, in terms of longer-lasting

Hola Paris,
You definitely had it shaped and groomed. I could see the finishing touch of the eye brow pencil as well if I am not mistaken?
I had my brow shaped 8 years ago, since then, I’ve been grooming and shaping it myself…bought the brow shaping kit from Tokyo 5 years ago and have been following the tips the MA gave me…
I think your brow do look amazing I might have a look at Shu MV tomorrow…
Btw I have hard time shopping in Shu (MV being the exception, the MA was nice)…they are kinda driving me away from this brand :(

Your brows look lovely! If I want it to be done by a regular BA, do I need to make an appointment too?

Reply

ParisB June 27, 2010 at 1:38 pm

I think regular BAs are available without an appointment so long as they are free :)

Reply

Saikai June 27, 2010 at 8:15 pm

Went so many times to had my eyebrow trim at Shu either at Mid Valley or One Utama, the SA there give you a sour face when you wanted to ask for brow trimming. They always said they are not free because too early not enough staff , come back later and will give you a sour face because maybe they refuse to trim as you are not buying anything from them. If i have a choice , will definately go else where than Shu , but right now having no choice.
