Here! Look what I picked up yesterday afternoon.
The long brush is my Ecotools bamboo blush brush which I use everyday and which gives me the perfect application for my blush. I got mine online but you can purchase it in Malaysia too – read here for my take on this.
Anyway, I picked up the short brush yesterday. Looks just like the Ecotools bamboo brush with bamboo handle and aluminium ferrule and brown synthetic bristles.
But as they say, sometimes, looks can be deceiving. Find out more below.
Take a closer look at the handle of the short brush.
Its a FENLING brush! Whatever Fenling is 😛
Its made in China just like Ecotools brushes so my guess is that its a lookalike or just comes from the same factory as Ecotools brushes.
Thanks to Eli I found this at the pharmacy at Jusco MidValley Megamall for RM16.90. I have not washed it so I have not used it. On my hand, it feels soft and pliable but less dense. Might make a decent travel powder brush for foundations and the like. I’ll see how it fares in comparison to other similar short handled powder brushes. From a preliminary point of view, its less dense than many of my other brushes.
I’ll tell you about this Fenling brush in a later post 🙂

Note: A quick check online tells me that Ecotools does not make a short handled powder brush so I can’t say this is a copy or a dupe. Its just a lookalike. Look in the Jusco pharmacy if you are interested.

Well, if it works, I would not be concerned about the brand name lo…. Hehe. ^.^ My eyeshadow brush aint no MAC, but it works!! ^.^
ParisB says
Yep I have a bunch of unbranded brushes too. I still use fingers most times for the eyes haha

Honestly, some of the cheap brushes work really well! One of my new faves is Etude House duo fiber brush, which is meant for cheeks but I’ve been using it to blend liquid foundation and it works like a charm. Many high-end brushes are overrated.
ParisB says
Yep I must agree. Ecotools is one of those “cheap brushes that work” but now there might be one even cheaper haha… I’ve heard a lot about the Etude House duo fiber brush. I should check it out some time 🙂 I don’t quite agree that higher end brushes are over rated. Sometimes they are, but sometimes they do work better because the quality of bristles is better. That said, for synthetic brushes, I find that low end works just as well as high end 😉

Oh, I didn’t mean all high end brushes are overrated, just that many I’ve tried are. I have a collection of some really nice high end brushes but there are several I wished I never wasted my money on. I should write a post of “rejects” soon 🙂

Ooh I know what you mean 🙂 Some brushes I wish I’d never spent a sen on!

It’d be great if this Fenling works! Can save lots of $$$.
Cant wait for the review!
ParisB says
Gotta remember to wash it over the weekend.

Do let us know! I’m all for saving $ as well. Was wondering if you could also comment on the brush life – e.g. if it sheds after use/washing. I found out the hard way after I purchased my Body Shop brushes : ( RM70 down the drain.
ParisB says
I could possibly do – I have already plucked out 2 stray hairs and that is without using. Actually my Body Shop blush brush is doing very well after quite a few years. Sometimes it could be the batch. I’ll take this on a gander and see how it fares.

Fenling? Hahahhaa…what a name. I’d stick to my ecotools thank you but it’d be interesting to see how it works 🙂
ParisB says
Yep! That’s my thought exactly LOL

It’s taking me forever to get to reviewing EcoTools brush. I haven’t even finished using all of them. But yes, they are a dream to work with. I can’t live without the fluffy brush and kabuki. Softest ever, softer than MUFE and MAC. Big plus point is that the powder never stays on. So the bristles always remain so clean no matter what you do.
I have tried the Etude House Duo Fibre. I wouldn’t say I am in love, as with EcoTools. Really okay only. I prefer my Make Up Store retractable blush brush (which is more like dome, and 360 degrees rounded instead of angled and half rounded like usual blush brush such as EcoTools). The Etude House one is quite hard and weird (it’s synthetic? the bristles really feels weird). I am not used to flat top brushes for blush.

I only have 2 Ecotools brushes so far. Won’t get the set coz I didn’t like it but might consider another blush brush because it works so well 😀

Aha! I was wondering who would be first one to cave and get the brushes. =P
