Steam Cream from Soap n Sorbet : What’s that?

Steam Cream? What on earth is that?!

That was foremost in my mind when I heard from Soap n Sorbet an online store in Singapore that carries Steam Cream (and ships internationally). So of course I had to go and see what Steam Cream is – and found out that its a product from goode olde England!

This is what they say Steam Cream is:-

STEAMCREAM represents the latest concept in skincare. Using a revolutionary steam-infused manufacturing process, STEAMCREAM provides a long-lasting, intensive and effective form of skincare that can be used on face, body and hands.

STEAMCREAM have pioneered the use of a steam technique to create this unique, gentle and loosely-bound emulsion. This looseness allows each ingredient – including a moisturising and soothing oatmeal infusion, orange flower water and healing lavender oil – to breakdown and penetrate areas of the skin that other creams find hard to reach.

Fascinating! A product formed using steam and to be used all over, including the face. Ok so I had to try it.

The Steam Cream comes in a lovely aluminium tin that screws shut and is designed in Japan. I am very grateful for the screw top cover as I will explain below. What makes the Steam Cream unique (other than its formulation and use) is the can that comes in different collectible designs. There is a serious danger of you wanting to collect them all since the designs are limited edition and get phased out quite quickly and new designs keep getting added.

Mine is Felicity – a tub covered with interlocking hearts which is just perfect for Valentine’s Day LOL!

The cream itself is very light with a whipped cream texture. Applied on the skin, the texture of the cream is light and slightly liquid upon contact with the skin. It absorbs quickly and does make my skin feel soft.

As the tin is only 75g and 7cm in diameter it is a perfect travel companion when you fly. BUT you must be very very careful when opening the tin in midflight. On a recent trip, I decided to apply some cream on my dry hands in the air and I promptly spilled part of the cream down my front when I unscrewed the cover. This is where I say that having a screw top cover is ingenious – else the cream will be all over the insides of your bag.

On my hands, the cream does make the skin feel softer and definitely more moisturized. In a cold climate, it helped keep my hands chap free and soft.

BUT despite it being multi-functional, I could only try it on my face once because the scent is very very strong. Its not an unpleasant smell. It smells of lavender and roses and is very comforting but on the face, near the nose, its a bit too strong for my liking. Also, I found it a little oily used on my face so I prefer to keep to using it on my hands and body.

People who are vegan or into organic and natural products will like this. It is also apparently suitable for those with sensitive skin but if you are sensitive to any of the ingredients, you might want to be careful because you can never be too sure :)

Ingredients: Oatmeal infusion (avena sativa), orange flower water (citrus aurantium amara, aqua), almond oil (prunus dulcis), cocoa butter (theobroma cacao), glycerine, stearic acid, triethanolamine, organic jojoba oil (simmondsia chinensis), lavender oil (lavandula augustifolia), chamomile blue oil (chamomilla recutita), orange blossom absolute (citrus aurantium dulcis), rose absolute (rosa damascena), neroli oil (citrus aurantium amara), cetyl stearyl alcohol, *coumarin, *geraniol, *citronellol, *limonene, *linaloal, perfume, methylparaben, propylparaben.

Steam Cream retails online for £10 for 75g or you can get it from Soap n Sorbet for S$26. Soap n Sorbet is based in Singapore and ships internationally and accepts payment by Paypal. From my experience they shipped quickly and efficiently. It might be useful if there was an indication of international shipping rates so buyers can check if its within their budget.

Pros: Multipurpose cream for face, hands and body, Cute tins make you want to collect them all, Screw top cover is a good touch, Absorbs quickly and keeps hands and body skin soft

Cons: Emulsion is a little liquid so you have to be careful, Scent is a bit strong for use on the face, Was a little oily on my face

You know what? I’m itching to get the Planeterium tin! The Star Trek geek in me wants it so bad :P Have you tried Steam Cream and are you liking it? Which tin has you going “Oooh! Lovely!” I’m going to finish up this Steam Cream just so I can start using the tin for other things!

P/S I got some clarification from Soap n Sorbet. The dented and leaky tin received by Plue below was not purchased from Soap n Sorbet. Also, the tins are made of aluminium which should not rust thereby keeping you collectibly happy for a long time :)

It appeals to the collector in me! For the tin, that is, although the product sounds pretty good too… I’m coveting the tin… :(

Plue gave me a sample (a lot of it that I won’t even consider it as a sample!) of it. Yeah, the scent is pretty heavy hence I feel reluctant to use it on my face even though it wasn’t too oily for me.

I’d prefer to keep this to the body. Unless they reduce the scent :)

I saw this in our Cleo, and was so tempted to get it, but I changed my mind because it’s in a tin. Tin doesn’t lasts… Will rust sooner or later, so not worth collecting, cos I will throw it away once it’s discolours.

The tin is actually made of Aluminium so it won’t rust – collect without fear! :D

I totally lurve my steam cream :D My design is in “Flower Garden”. My skin is super dry and flaky, so I was very happy to discover this product – because it’s light and absorbs well enough I don’t sweet of an oily layer in the SG sun hehe
