sunsilk smooth & manageable

Sunsilk Smooth & Manageable shampoo and conditioner promises to tame unruly hair so you have hair that falls like strands of silk… if the ads are to be believed. From experience, nothing makes hair as smooth and manageable as rebonding but that also leaves me with limp hair which I detest.

So, I’ve been using the Sunsilk Smooth & Manageable for so long without reviewing it that my conditioner is finished. Sigh… Everytime I get round to reviewing a hair product, its finished :P See Dove conditioner - case in point!

Right off the bat, I’m going to say that this shampoo and conditioner did NOT make my hair any more smooth and manageable than it already is. I can run a wide toothed comb easily through my hair after washing and when I wake up which is normal by my standards.

However I did like the Smooth and Manageable Shampoo. It does not smell super fragranced like the leave in conditioner and you don’t need much to lather up and get nice clean hair. It also softens my hair somewhat which feels nice.

The conditioner on the other hand, did not fall into my list of likes. I did not feel that it made my hair any smoother nor softer. If anything, my hair feels a little more coarse. Weird? Yes.

One more thing I noticed – I’ve been experiencing a lot of hair fall using this shampoo and conditioner which is quite worrying :P So, I’m going to switch to a different brand soon and see if it improves so I know if its me or the shampoo. Age is already a sore topic with me and I don’t need to add premature hair loss to my concerns!

I cannot remember the prices of these but they are very affordable – under RM10 for the smaller sizes I’m sure and easily available everywhere.

Pros: Affordable, Not too strongly fragranced, Shampoo is nice

Cons: Conditioner did not make hair feel smooth and manageable

I’m always mixing my shampoos and conditioners to what feels nicest for my hair. I’ve also used expensive shampoos and conditioners previously but I’m now back to drugstore or pharmacy brands. I figure at the end of the day, if its fine for my hair, its also more economical for my wallet! :)

Stay beautiful,

Paris B

I stopped using Sunsilk after trying Asience… Been using Sunsilk for God knows how long and my hair just smells nice… Texture wise, didn’t improve one bit… I like the gold bottle one though =) I really love the smell… haha…

I have never tried expensive brands before… Even Herbal Essences was considered as an expensive brand to me… lol…

I was really skeptical about Asience at first, thinking what can a shampoo and conditioner actually do to my hair… I mean you just scrub it in and then wash it away… BUT after I tried their trial pack and finished it, I was surprised… My hair is much more manageable and smoother… Lesser fly-away and it feels heavier than before giving my hair more texture… =)

Really happy with the results… I apply the treatment whenever I have time for a long shower as the treatment is the rinse off type… I try to do it at least once a week…

Hi Yuki

I’d tried Ascience too. I like it… but my hair felt dry after a while.

sad to say, Sunsilk never works for me! I’ve tried giving them so many chances but it’s always a no no for my hair!

Hi ParisB,

Because I used to be a part-time Ballet performer, I frequently had to do up my hair in tight buns and coat it in horrific amounts of hair spray/mousse/gel and even glitter. Needless to say, my very long hair strands ALL ended with splits, flyaways and were generally coarse and unmanageable. From experience, the only 2 shampoos that really gave me significantly sleeker locks were the Tsubaki Hair shampoo/conditioner set (Red one) and the L’Oreal Paris Professionel Series in Liss Extreme (the pale violet one from the Expert Series range). They really worked wonders for me and I hope they will for you too, if you ever try them! :)

Hi QY

Thank you for your recommendations! We don’t get Tsubaki here yet… I don’t think but I think I know which l’Oreal one you mean. I’ll check that out after I finish this current crop of hair care

Oh, shame Malaysia doesn’t get Tsubaki. Having performed a few times in Japan (where the shampoo is originally from), I can tell you that CK shops (not CK Tangs, just CK) in Singapore sell them for the same price, and even less during discounts! I think that line has gotten lots of raves online too. But if you do try out the L’Oreal one, they’ve a weekly hair mask that’s pretty good too.

I’m not sure if you’ve tried, but I find that haircare specially formulated for rebonded hair works great on unruly, unmanageable hair and dry, split ends. I guess there’s something “nourishing” about them. But if you’ve an oily scalp, then haircare for light rebonding may work better instead.

Well, here’s hoping that you’ll be able to find a haircare routine that’ll work marvellously for you!

Hi Reena

For some reason I’ve never been drawn to Herbal Essences… but I’ll go take a look next time I’m in the market for shampoo!
