Review: Dior Serum de Rouge lipstick – 840 Crimson Serum Must Have!

by ParisB on October 12, 2009

in Lipstick, Product Reviews

If you are going to splurge on just one lipstick this year, make it Dior Serum de Rouge. This is by far, my favourite lipstick of 2009 and that’s saying a lot since we’ve only just entered the final quarter of 2009! I don’t think anything will or can be launched later in the year to displace my love for this.

dior serum de rouge

Dior Serum de Rouge is a new luxurious lip treatment by Dior Cosmetics. To call it a tinted lipbalm is doing it injustice because its not a tint of colour on your lips – its full on COLOUR! Yet, like a lipbalm it caresses your lips and keeps them moist and supple.

To call it a lipstick is similarly deceptive as it keeps lips supple and soft while drenches it with lip colour. It might be best to call it as Dior has – a lip treatment for the lips hence the name Serum de Rouge.

I did not show you the full packaging because I love this shot of the lipstick :P But the Serum de Rouge lipstick comes in a slim tube with cane work on the body. You twist the bottom of the tube to push the lipstick up and similarly to twist it back down. There is that clackity sound like that of the click lipglosses – all quite lux looking. The swatch of Crimson Serum and the rest of the colours available is after the jump.

You are viewing the Dior Serum de Rouge in #840 – Crimson Serum, a colour I zeroed in immediately when I saw it. If you love red lips you MUST get Crimson Serum. Its positively gorgeous on.

Here’s how Crimson Serum looks with and without flash. Yani loves this color too – but then she would! ;)

The serum lipstick slides on your lips like warm butter, looking glossy and moist; and the beautiful part about this is that it lasts without drying out the lips. I eat and drink and by midday some color is gone, but a tint of it remains on my lips. Serum de Rouge is replacing my love for Dior Addict lipsticks! But I guess its ok since its all Dior LOL…

If you’d rather not go for something quite as strong as Crimson Serum, you have 6 colours to choose from – most of them are wearable. Jamilla Camel has me wanting 760 Raspberry Serum. I think I’m going to cave when I get to duty free! ;)

Dior Serum de Rouge retails at RM109 each at all Dior counters. Yes its pricey but good quality stuff always come with a hefty price tag so I’m not complaining. Put this on your Christmas/birthday/holiday wishlist ;)

Pros: Smooth, Does not dry out lips, Good colour payoff, Sleek packaging

Cons: Pricey but worth it :P

Have you tried the Serum de Rouge lipsticks? If you haven’t drop by the Dior counter, test them and let me know if you love them as much as I do :)

p/s There is also SPF20 to protect lips. The active ingredients include Mango butter (smooths surface), Hyaluronic acid (boosts up wrinkles in lips), Ruscogenine (stimulate microcirculation), Extract of Centella Asiatica (activate collagen to boost lip firmness), Extract of Commiphora (replumping anti-wrinkle action)

Stay beautiful,

Paris B

Thanks for the review and swatches! You look great!

Does Serum de Rouge have an SPF of 20? Can you please list the (active) ingredients?

Ooooh I wanted this one so bad when I first saw it. KIV-ed it ‘cos I’ve got way too many lipsticks. Now that I’ve seen this, I’m so getting one :P

Enough said! If it’s your ultimate must have lipstick for 2009! I’m sure it’s worth the money!!! I haven’t tried any of their lipsticks or even makeup for goodness sake, I guess I’ve tried most of their sample sizes, but this is getting interesting!!!

Ah!!! I’ve got my eye on that raspberry one as I found crimson to be a little too bold for everyday ^^ I’m actually okay with the price tho. In comparison Shiseido lippies are RM90+ each and the Lunasol ones are equally as expensive. But taking the texture and quality into consideration it actually works out well. I also look forward to them expanding the range to include some rosy corals ^___^
What am I saying? It’s Dior! They make lipsticks like no other!

Hi Saintangelius

Hi AnT

Haha… I’m not sure if its cheaper at duty free – I’m going to find out later but even if its cheaper, I doubt it’ll be much cheaper

Hi Celaine

Its in the review – RM109.

Oh my goodness. It looks positively delicious! And it’s a gorgeous colour. =)

And there I was telling Kahani I shall refrain from lipsticks for the rest of the day. Out goes the resolution! I’ll try to run to a Dior counter soon to check it out. Thanks for the review Paris!

I have this too! In the beige though. My best nude lip ever!!!!

At first, the color turn me off, actually. All too dark and kinda old-lady. The SA insisted on me trying it so I did. Then I love the feeling of it and decided to buy one. Now I’m wearing it everyday and all the time!! :) Love love love!

Hey! Great review and I love the first shot of the rouge. I’m typically not so brave to go with a super red lip cos I’ve got overly full lips and wearing a tinted and red lip makes me look obscene, but I do love THIS particular red. It comes off light, a tint, if you will and while it’s actual full on colour, it’s not overbearingly red like some other reds can be.

Personally though, I always carry the 640 in my handbag for my daily office look, but I recently added on the 740 Rosewood cos it is SO deliciously pink! My bestfriend carries the 730 and 760 and we often trade and share in the powder room. With great results! I love this product, I really do, cos it seems no matter what colour I slide on, it looks gorgeous.

And I absolutely adore the moisturizing effect!
