My Servicable and Pretty Lunch Tote

by Paris B on August 23, 2009 · 28 comments

A while ago, I bemoaned the fact that I could never get pretty lunch totes here like the ones I saw online. I persevered with my natty paper bag until one day I came across a promotion at Isetan.

lunch bag

Here’s the lunch tote complete with lunch boxes, which I ended up with!

The brand is Lock & Lock and you might be familiar with the storage containers that lock on 4 sides. Lock & Lock is now my food storage container of choice especially for packing lunches!

They don’t spill, there’s no smell, the size I got is just nice – 1 long box, a box with 3 partitions and a water bottle all in a lovely bright red insulated bag that keeps my food warm till lunch. Here’s how it looks when filled. Oh did I mention it came with a fork and spoon too? :D I love it. I think it cost me RM50+ after discount but Isetan usually has offers for lunch boxes in a bag of various sizes so you can find one to suit your needs and appetite. Oh don’t be fooled by the size – you can pack a LOT of food into these! :D I’m always having to rack my brains to figure out what to fill them up with.

I’ve fallen off the lunch bandwagon a bit since things got a bit unpredictable around lunch time at the office, but I’m going to get back to packing lunch soon. Its healthier and better for my waistline :P

Do you carry your own lunch to work? Do you use a specific set of lunch boxes?

Stay beautiful,

Paris B

It looks cute! I’ve been thinking about packing my lunch too, but the hassle of cooking always stops me cold each time. :P

Hi Rinnah

I usually use leftovers and heat them up in the morning ;) No cooking!

My son has the exact same thing (lunch box) but of course not this colour. LOL. it’s so popular among kids now and they all have to be labeled with names! :)

Hey Jojoba

I guess parents too are realizing the benefits of a packed lunch vs bought lunch – its healthier. Now I want to label mine :P I must agree about the water bottle. Its way too small for me too!

ps: it’s a good idea to carry your own lunch. a lot cheaper and healthier and you are sure everything in it is what you like.

ps: that water bottle is a joke as it doesn’t store enough… i never use it.

Hi Saitoyf

Ooh a proper Japanese Bento! I have no creativity so I just pack things how I like as long as it looks decently appetizing :D

It is very pretty :) I used to have an insulated bag and I can sling on my shoulder (it’s around somewhere) but I’ve since stopped using it. I’m now using a microwave-, oven-, freezer-proof pyrex bowl with lid for my lunch. THe thing is, I’m reluctant to heat my food in a plastic case so I’d have to pour my food into a bowl to be heated up. Then, I’d have to wash every damn thing. So, the pyrex bowl is my answer for not having to wash so many items even though it weighs a bloody ton.

I’ve always packed lunch to work; saves a whole load of money and I find it’s the best way to lose whatever holiday flab I’ve gained =) Summer’s coming, time to fit into those 2-pieces again! :D

Hey Geekchic

I dont have a microwave else I might carry glass too. That said I’m such a klutz I’d probably break it. Kudos to you for handling glass on a train!

You can find those thick glass tupperware with plastic lids with the same lock n’ lock closure system. that might solve your problem!

I pack my own lunch too! I recently switched jobs [more money] so I work as an admin assistant in an industrial area. And the nearest eatery is very far away. So I just prepare some food the night before and pack them in the tupperware and i just bring it to work the next day. some times it’s porridge… sometimes it’s soba…. possibilities are endless. I just wanna learn how to make a bento… the japanese way.

Hey Ms. Blacklace

I sometimes surprise even myself at what I can come up with for lunch when I’m short of leftovers LOL… There are loads of Japanese bento blogs online now – good place to start learning :)

Hi Nikki

Sometimes my lunch isn’t as healthy as I like but at least the portions are controllable!

Ooooo…they look so nice!

I used to pack lunch to work during my Industrial Training program, cuz the food around where I was working was expensive(especially with the little allowance my company is giving for us trainees) and lack variety. Sometimes my sister would fry some noodles for breakfast and I’ll pack some for lunch, or I’ll pack something from the LRT station stalls. Its so much cheaper there. Since I know I’ll pack lunch from the station, what I do is, I bring a tupperware from home and ask the ‘makcik’ to pack the food in the tupperware I brought from home. :D

Hi Kristine

That’s very clever to bring your own box! That way you don’t have to contend with throwing away more trash than necessary :D

The red bag is so pretty and practical Paris!! So is the water bottle… wonder if they sell that separately! :D

I really admire you for packing lunch to work… i’m too lazy to do that, plus i need to get out of the office during lunch time otherwise i might just die from suffocation! haha jk! :P

Hi Jenn

I think the water bottle is available separately but its way too small honestly. 2 gulps of water and I’m done. Still, its practical to tote around for emergencies :) I know what you mean about having to get out of the office. Some days I’m like that too.

Just the thing I need! I bring my own lunch to work in a plastic bag (and have to change it ever so often). Now with this, I can even look fashionable while bringing my own food :)

Hi Adrianna

Yep! Do check it out when Lock n Lock runs promotions. I don’t see it for sale otherwise :)

Ohh…the lunch bag is so pretty ! Rm50 for the whole set is quite affordable for Lock & Lock’s price standard.
I use Lock & Lock at home too, I wish I could change all my containers to Lock & Lock! LOL!
