Lancome Genifique Serum – Activating Youth from within

10 years of research and 7 patents later bring us Lancome Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate - a serum that claims to unlock the gene profile that controls aging so skin looks younger from a genetic level. Really fascinating stuff, I do not deny.

Lancome Genefique Launch

During the recent launch of Génefique Youth Activating Concentrate here in Malaysia, Lancome had a little talk on genes and aging by Ass. Prof Dr. Maude Phipps of Monash University Department of Human Genetics and Molecular Medicine. She did a good job giving us a brief overview of the human genome and how genes affect and control every fibre of our being including aging. If I was just a little more inclined towards science and math, I would have signed up for genetic research a long while back. Still, I enjoyed her talk tremendously being the closet geek… and this time there are no exams :)

And I enjoyed extracting the DNA from a strawberry too! Donning white lab coats and sitting before science lab instruments I last saw while at school, I felt the perfect mad scientist :D

Unlike my experiments at school, this experiment was a huge success! But back to the Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate.

What the Lancome Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate is supposed to do is boost the activity of our genes so skin looks and feels younger. The 2 biotech active ingredients are Bio-Lysat – stimulates gene’s expression of the identified youth protein; and Phytosphingosine – re-establishes protein synthesis and promotes the development of higher quality, more beautiful skin.

The serum comes in a heavy smoked black glass bottle that reminds me of rare and wonderful potions that we see in the movies. You know when the scientist has an Eureka! moment and draws a little vial of potion from a vat of dry ice… this is how it looks.

Lancome Genefique

All you need is 2 drops day and night and the opaque serum is dispensed via a dropper in the cap so its quite easy to control. You use it right after cleansing and toning and before all other serums or moisturizers.

I’d been using it for a while and I must say that the initial results were pretty impressive. I swear my skin looked better after only after a few days.

However, I also noticed some breakouts happening around my chin and cheek area. A Youth Activator should not be activating my teenage acne genes too right?! :P I was not sure at first so I stopped it and let everything clear up. Then, I tried again and 2 days later, I got some spots. It was saddening.

I did try using it only once a day and it works fine for me then. So, I’m keeping to just once a day usage or once every alternate day. On the one hand it seems to be doing its job despite the not so regular use, and on the other hand, its helping one 30ml bottle last a whole lot longer! :)

A 30ml bottle of  Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate will retail for RM350 at all Lancome counters from August 2009. Watch out for it then.

Stay beautiful,

Paris B

Connie July 8, 2009 at 12:27 pm

ooooh…. this stuff sounds so high tech! I think I’ve extracted onion DNA back when I was in school. Lol! bummer bout the breakouts? Maybe it’s yet another “purging” period? :p

ParisB July 8, 2009 at 6:18 pm

Hey Connie

Better not be! But its calmed down now that I don’t use it everyday, just every other day :)

My Two Cents July 9, 2009 at 12:08 am

you know I just started using mine about two nights ago, just like on a few eye wrinkles/lines….and pores, no where else…and I must say that I think I can see results already, and i only use it at nights….my skin seems to be smoother, brigher… think i love this stuff!

ParisB July 9, 2009 at 11:06 am

Hi My Two Cents

Great that it works for you. I have resorted to only using it at night too.

Hi, I also experienced breakout over my cheeks and forehead area ever since I started to use this product.OMG! Do you think this is a consistent issue when using this product for the first time?

ParisB July 9, 2009 at 11:09 am

Hi minsin

Did you try slowing down on its use? If the spots don’t get worse but get better then it might be “purging” but I slowed down on the use and so far so good.

My cousin sister experienced some breakouts too when she tried this product on. Hmm I’m gonna tell her to slow down on the use and see how it goes.
No wonder the person in the picture looks familiar.. Dr.Phipps gave my class a lecture few months ago, partly on aging too. Too bad it wasn’t about beauty. I’d be awake if it wasn’t about worms :P

Hi, I got this last month. According to the sale rep, some experience outbreak for the first few days/weeks depending on skin condition, due to the fact that the product extract impurities or so. I do not know how true that is, but at least that’s what I’m told. So far I hadn’t have any outbreak, but my boyfriend who has acne prone complexion did have major outbreak for first few days, but it soon calm down after I treated him some aspirin mask. Anyway his skin definitely looks more youthful, but his acne problem still exist like before, no worse no better. Hope that helps.

Anyway I’m just wondering does it help to refine pores? After all that was what brought me here in the beginning. Was thinking of incorporating skin refining serum into the boyfriend’s skin care regime if it Lancome Genifique doesn’t.

Oh and we use it on daily basis.

hi, how long does one bottle last (according to your usage)? and 2 drops per application u mean? or per day as in 1 drop day and 1 drop at night?

ParisB March 20, 2011 at 12:41 pm

I don’t use this – I gave it to my mum. You use 2 drops in the day and 2 drops at night. Can probably last you a while.

Hi I have just purchased a bottle but theres no instructions, how do you apply it, on to a tissue and spread all over or into your hand etc?????

ParisB June 12, 2011 at 3:47 pm

Pump a few drops into your hand and apply to your face. Otherwise, check with your local Lancome sales assistant for their recommendations.
