MAC Porcelain Pink from Color Craft – First MAC purchase in forever!

Yesterday, when I Tweeted that I’d picked up Porcelain Pink - a MAC Mineralize Skin Finish powder, I received a slew of Twitter replies ranging from the  incredulous to surprise. Yes, my reputation for disliking MAC must be THAT obvious eh? ;)

MAC porcelain pink

I like to give brands a fair chance because there are always hits and misses. So yesterday, I walked into the MAC store at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur where I received some pretty good service by my standards.

There were a couple of girls chatting away and ignoring my presence but a friendly male sales assistant came up to offer his help without being intrusive. He let me play with everything at the counters, wander all over the store and only when I asked for his help did he come on over to assist. Personally I like that because I can usually tell whether I want something off the bat without someone hanging onto my coat-tails. But that’s me and perhaps others might not like that. All in all, I’ve had 2 good experiences with MAC at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur now (both with male SAs) and if I go back to MAC, it will probably be there.

So onto Porcelain Pink! The Mineralize Skin Finish I’d been eyeing since its debut in 2004. Don’t ask me why I did not get it then – its one of those things. So after a couple of re-releases and now re-released again with Color Craft, I strolled off to eye it and possibly buy it.

Porcelain Pink is a very light pink with gold veining which imparts a light shimmer. Nothing chunky nothing highly shimmery like the rest in the Color Craft collection.

Swiped on my hand you see nothing. Which is why you won’t see any swatches here. I used it today as a blush to try it out. Its actually a tad too light to be used as a blush unless you are very very fair skinned. I used my Anna Sui Flat Top brush which is pretty dense to apply this on and I get a very slight pink on my cheeks with shimmer. Fortunately, shimmer isn’t super heavy so I’m not looking like a disco ball. It actually makes my skin look quite nice and poreless :P

Tine asked if Porcelain Pink was anything like Benefit Dandelion. Off hand I’d say Dandelion is cooler pink while Porcelain Pink is warmer with golden shimmer. Dandelion also seems to show up better on me as a blush while Porcelain Pink is sheerer but will look really pretty as a highlight or over pink blush to accent.

I’ll experiment in the next few days and do some comparisons and we’ll see how it goes from there. MAC Mineralize Skin Finishes retail for RM115.

So there you have it, my first MAC purchase in a million years. I rather like it for now, and no the sky isn’t falling down on our heads and I’m not left wanting more MAC. I’d say its all in all a pretty good thing! :)

Do you own Porcelain Pink and if you do, what do you think of it? Any tips on how I might use it? :)

Stay beautiful,

Paris B

Great to hear that you got great service at MAC Pavilion! I was served by a pretty snobbish girl over there weeks ago! I’m never going back there again :(

i want that MSF! Pigments and MSF and the mineralized blushes are my fav things from MAC. This colour is gorgeous. Would love to see you wearing it though. :P

PS: MAC stores in Malaysia generally have very bad CS. the ones I like is in Mega Mall and KLCC.

Hi Jojoba

Conversely I’ll never step in to MAC MV. KLCC isn’t too bad depending on who’s serving. However, this might just be the last time since I’m still NOT into MAC LOL… I’ll try to post up a proper review soon.

*cheers* Congrats!!! Jenn and I aren’t very good influences, are we? :p the Porcelain Pink looks really pretty. On it’s own you should still get some color but pretty sheer. You can try layering over your blush or use as a highlight. MSFs can be used as eyeshadows too :D Have fun with it! I’m thinking of using MSF on my legs too. hahaha

Hiya Connie

Nope! Both of you did not help :P I do get some pinky tones on my cheeks with shine. Its quite pretty. I layered it over pink blush today which brings it out a lot more. MSF on legs? Now that’s something to try!

I shall head to the stores tonight (or maybe tomorrow) to see if Colour Craft is here yet. From the pictures, the Porcelain Pink looks a tad peachy, but it could just be the light ;)

Hi Tine

There is a very slight hint of peach but then again, it might be lighting as you say. Its mostly pink :) Can’t wait to see if you’d get it :P

Hi Bubbles

Um… I can’t remember to be honest. Everything else looked too brown for me or too sparkly sorry! Best to try in person and see.

Ah! I never have any luck with MAC cosmetics. I went in there on sunday hoping to get the Colour Crafted lippie. I thought it was a nice shimmery pink. It was more frosted than I originally figured it would be. Looked like I was doing the Ganguro thing -.-; Sighs… was such a pretty colour in the packaging…

Hi Saintangelius

Oh dear that sucks! I don’t like MAC lipsticks in general :P

Yay for MSF :) I only bought Smooth Merge from this collection which I use as a blush and highlight. Porcelain Pink is too light on me.

I’ve had only good experiences at MAC in KL so far, maybe I was lucky :)

Hi there Amanda!

You must be very lucky! Many people complain LOL… That said, I suppose its what we want to look for in an MSF eh? Porcelain Pink is definitely too light for blush for many. Perhaps thats why the SA was so surprised I wanted it hehe

Hello Stella

I like how you described it. I do like the nice flush it gives my skin too – makes it look smoother than it is ;) I thought it was just out? Hmm… perhaps I’m just lucky ;)

Congrats for ur 1st purchase :) Used to I dislike MAC too, but then I gave myself a chance until I addicted xD
The MAC male SA from Pavillion I think is Stephen. He’s very nice and made me so comfort that time. I end up purchase RM 600 plus as I appreciate what he did :)
Colour Craft collection I only got Fad Dabulous and Style Demon, the blusher. Others kinda sucks as too shimer and more as a highlighter to me.
but I love Sunny by Nature which I think can use for shading :)

Hiya Meri L

No it wasn’t Stephan but another one. Stephan was the other lovely one :) I don’t think its likely I’ll go back to MAC though my MAC phase passed about 4 years ago LOL

I have tried another MAC mineralized skin product before. Didn’t like it. The colour doesn’t last and the pressed powder cracks after a while. Gonna stay with the powder minerals i bought online.

Plus, they are cheaper ( i’m not cheap, just want to save money, hihihi)

Hi Elisha

Oho cracks? Well I hope mine doesn’t! Thanks for your input

I’m a bit darker than Paris so I consider this 1 lemming killed. RM115 is a bit steep for me too.

ParisB July 24, 2009 at 9:24 am

Hi Irene

Yep if you’re darker, it’ll only serve as a highlight of which you should be able to get from any brand :)

personally, i love MSF but it cost too much for my wallet… Is MAC increase their retail prices again ? If I’m not mistaken I bought my MSF from Sugarsweet collection was only RM105… I love MAC but I hate the price… hehehe..

Reply

Jooj July 28, 2009 at 10:31 am

that’s what i thought too! i got my Sugarsweet MSFs for RM105 each. maybe the Color Crafted ones were more expensive because they’re stripey and stuff? dunno.

i agree with you PB, that i get good service at the Pavilion and KLCC stores. half of the girls at KLCC know me already because i’m there so often. lol

ParisB July 28, 2009 at 5:31 pm

Hi Jooj

I think they just raised the prices – cashing in on a good thing eh? ;)

Jooj July 28, 2009 at 8:36 pm

Shocker! fortunately for me, MSF’s are pretty low on my list of favorite things at MAC. not a fan of the metallic glitterbomb look, lol!
