Recently, I had eyeshadows crease on my eyelids. It was the first time ever that such a thing has happened so it was with great interest that I studied this phenomenon. I tried the same eyeshadow the next day with a cream eye colour as base and this time, everything worked fine. Which brings us to this week’s reader’s question from Hasegawa Ayane:-
Hey PB~!
I was wondering if you knew of any good and affordable eyelid primers around? My eyeshadows always seem to fade just after a few hours and my eyelids aren’t oily. It’s not the eyeshadow since many people have reviewed it and it worked perfectly fine for them.

I personally have a problem sometimes with eyeshadows that fade e.g. Silkygirl Forest Green palette. I don’t use a dedicated eyelid primer mainly because I never managed to get my hands on the infamous Urban Decay Primer Potion or Too Faced Shadow Insurance, both of which are not available in Malaysia. Instead, what I do is use cream eyeshadows or concealer as an eye base. Some cream eyeshadow that work for me as eye bases are:-
- Benefit Creaseless Cream Eyeshadows – mine is Skinny Jeans which works as a great way to deepen colour tones and I’m sure My Date’s My Brother works great too.
- Estee Lauder Double Wear Cream Eyeshadow – I have Ivory Lace which I’ll review in time and it works a treat because its a neutral shade.
- MAC Paint pots – I used to have a couple but no longer use them
Sometimes, I apply a light layer of concealer or foundation over my lid and then pat on the eyeshadow on top of it. It helps it to last. But I find using a cream eyeshadow in a matching colour makes the colour of the powder shadow more vibrant. So help us out here if you are familiar with eyelid primers.
What is an affordable and effective eyelid primer and where can you get it?
