Review: Dove Ultimate Visibly Smooth Anti-Perspirant Deodorant

by Paris B on May 27, 2009 · 28 comments

I don’t regularly use deodorant or anti-perspirant. Sorry… Is that TMI (Too Much Info)? LOL… Reason is mainly because I don’t feel the need to as I don’t have over active sweat glands nor BO <- at least I hope not :P and I grew up with the scare of breast cancer linked to deos etc.

However, recently I was offered to try the new Dove Ultimate Visibly Smooth deodorant which is launching in the USA in May 2009.

Dove Visibly Smooth Deodorant

Unlike other deodorants I’m used to seeing, the Dove Ultimate Visibly Smooth tube is large. At 74g, much larger than normal. Definitely not something you can tote around in your purse. I wonder why they made it so large.

Its a deodorant stick that goes on with a dry feel. I like that. I don’t want to walk around with my arms stuck out at right angles to my body waiting for my deodorant to dry before I can put on my clothes :P

The “Visibly Smooth” in the name refers to the pro-epil complex to help you feel stubble free for longer. Really? The sceptic in me raised an eyebrow.

Really. There is some truth to the claim. With regular use over 2 weeks any underarm hair or stubble did feel less noticable. However, I’m not much of a hairy beast so I couldn’t quite say if it was just my hair growing slowly or the deo working its magic. Either way, it felt reasonably good enough that I’d continue using this.

It being a deodorant, there was a fragrance and Wild Rose was of roses. It was ok although I’d wonder where the flowery smell was coming from halfway through the day. As an anti-perspirant, it performed reasonably well though it won’t help if you had to be out in the sun the whole day in hot humid tropical weather and perspiring from every pore like I was one of the days. Otherwise, it kept me feeling nice and dry.

Now here’s the snag. Its not available in Malaysia… or Asia! Perhaps soon, perhaps never I can’t quite say. But if you’re in the USA, go to this link at Dove’s website and print out the $2 coupon. The deodorant only costs $3.49 so you’d get it for uh… practically nothing! :P

Are you a regular user of deodorant or anti-perspirant? Do you think itsĀ  a necessary item to have on your dresser?

Stay beautiful,

Paris B

This deo made me have horrible sores from backed up hairs. it was extremely painful. Do not use this product.

lol. I don’t usually use deodorant either. I used to use it when I was working in a lab, and if I’m going out after work, then I’ll apply it. If not, I can’t be bothered to. hee. but if this deodorant claims to keep me stubble free for a longer period….then I don’t mind testing it out. lol

Hi renz

It would be good if it came into Asia. We sure need it here! The stubble free claims are fair claims – you do feel stubble free for longer.

I was really keen on using deodorant and anti-perspirant, but now I don’t use it daily, SURPRISE! With our super warm weather here in SE Asia, it’s funny to know I don’t perspire much, good or bad? Dunno! But my hubby actually is using the DOVE asian version, the white one? and it works for him

Hiya Nikki

Sometimes I wonder if its a good or bad thing too! But for purposes of comfort it must be a good thing :)

Hi plue

Deo seems to be a very personal thing. I never liked the liquidy ones with the roll ons. Always took forever and a day to dry.

i’ve been using deo since forever! i’d be sooo anxious and conscious of anything out of ordinary like ‘y is she looking at me like that, do i smell *sniff sniff*’ kind of thing if i dont wear it.

pretty beautiful, which yuan soap is that? NOW u got me interested :D

Hi Anis

LOL… If prettybeautiful doesn’t see this, I think she’s referring to the Wild Mugwort Yuan soap.

I’m one of those unfortunate souls cursed with overactive sweat glands (ok, TMI), so an anti-perpirant is a must for me!

I swear by Perspirex! It really works! :D

Hey Jenn

I’ve never come across Perspirex but then I guess I don’t pay much attention to deos or anti-perspirants LOL… thanks for the tip!

I’ve been using deo since I was 13, I think. Not that I’ve BO, my mom and grandma always told us, ‘Girls should smell nice and no hair there!’ LOL.

I was using deo stick when I was younger until I discovered deo spray. I’m currently using Dove. I really like it because it keeps me dry.

I’ve just seen the ad on Dove Ultimate Visibly Smooth on the telly yesterday. I didn’t pay any attention during the commercial break, it was my BF who told me, ‘Maybe you can replace your epilator with this new deo!’

Hi Amanda

Oho! If you have this in Europe, definitely give the Visibly Smooth a try and I LOL at your BF’s statement. The ad must be working!

That’s one of the things I miss about being in America with a postal address – you get all these things for free or use the coupons to get them if not.

I’ve got this older Dove deo stick (which I think is since available in Malaysia, I’ve not looked :P ) that I got for free when I was in the States that I can’t seem to finish.

If I got my hands on this, it might take longer for me to finish :P

Hmm I think I might have seen this here. I’ll go have a look see look see :P

I don’t use antiperspirants, only deodorants (the spray kind). Find the ones you have to rub onto the skin rather unhygienic :P

This Deo is HORRIBLE. And I love Dove :-/ I was excited when I saw the commercial for longer stubble free days, because my hair grows fast. I’ve been using it for about a week and a half. And it has made my underarms WORSE. I have bumps all over both underarms where the hair follicles are. Its like I have ingrown hairs or something. Like the Deo slowed down the process of letting the hairs poke out of the skin and now the hair is building up underneath. Can we say OUCH!!! YUCK!!! and *Cries* :-( Im sure this Deo works different for everyone, but for me who has dark thick and a lot of hair (hey…Im latin) it is a NIGHTMARE

I agree with you. I’m not latin, but I do have dark thick hair and I’ve had horrible results with this product. The first few weeks of use, everything was fine, then I started itching. Then things got painfully itchy. My underarms are sore and red and unhappy. I’ve had to resort to putting diaper rash cream on them to sooth the itch. On top of all that, that hair seemed to grow just like it always has. I used to use Tom’s of Maine, and I’m going back to that!

I have never used deodorant before either. I don’t really sweat and when i do i never smell. i was randomly in the deodorant isle and thought… ‘why not try soemthing that helps me shave less’? i now love deodorant! i am not a hairy person, by any means. however, i used to get under arm stubble by the end of the day if i shaved in the morning. no more! my underarms always smell like roses and i’m not afraid to wear tank tops and raise my arms. i loooooove this… if not for a deodorant, then a convenience. i now don’t have to shave for two days. BUY THIS! you won’t regret it!! :)

Love this product. I have dark hair, so you can usually start to see it before it even brakes the surface. I can tell a huge difference. I don’t have to shave every single day if my armpits might be visible.
