Review: The Body Shop Moroccan Rose Shower Gel

Next to blushes, my other crack is shower gels. I love  shower gels of any variety from aromatherapy to floral, from fresh to spicy. I do shy from fruity though – if it smells to sweet to eat, its probably too sweet for me to use – thats my philosophy. So, when I saw and smelt the shower gel from the new Moroccan Rose collection at The Body Shop, I knew I had to pick it up.

The Body Shop Moroccan Rose Collection

In the pretty pink bottle, the shower gel smells lovely – a delicate fresh floral smell of roses. I could just imagine my shower stall filled with the lovely smell of Moroccan Roses after my shower. What a treat!

All that remained in my imagination however. When I excitedly took the shower gel home and into the shower, I was immediately disappointed. There was barely any scent at all!

No fresh roses, no lovely lather. Nothing. It was as good as using pure glycerin on my skin and only when I put my nose up close to my palms did I smell anything resembling roses. The scent did not linger on my skin or in the air.

Boo!!  :(

At RM45 for a 250ml bottle of shower gel that smells of nothing in the shower, and leaves my bathroom smelling of nothing, it is abominably expensive. Ok, so it cleans my skin – somewhat – thats about the only saving grace there is. Thing is, I bought this one not for its skin cleaning properties but for the promised Moroccan Rose scent! Lucky for me I redeemed my Body Shop points for this one so I did not pay full price … but still! What a waste of points! :P

On a happier note I got one of the Roseflower lipsticks too. At least that did not disappoint me that much. Wait for my thoughts on it coming soon.

Pros: Cleans the skin

Cons: No scent in the shower

Waaa…..Paris, you are always very quick to review new stuff in the market ;)
Anyways, I agree with you about the shower gel. however, if you put more shower gel, say about 10ml (approximate la), then you can get a faint hint in the bathroom after shower. Plus if you layer it with the body milk, you can get a faint hint of fragrance on your body. I just tried this last night. cos for the past few days, I’ve been ‘sniffing’ my forearm many times after shower but smelt nothing. at least, today, i can smell something and my bathroom still has some of the smell from last nite.

Hi VonVon

I thought it would have the same concentration of scent as their other shower gels i.e. strong. It would be too expensive to use a lot at one go. Sigh… Oh well you win some you lose some

err…actually the main promotion is soothing moisturizer for sensitive skin. It promoted to be ‘soap-free’, and with ‘delicate’ fragrance.

So I guess, it should translate as ‘no sodium laureth sulfate’, and ‘no chemical fragrance’, which suit sensitive skin perfectly. Hence the lack of fragrance and lather.

Hi Muta

I thought it’d be sodium laureth sulfate free too when i saw it was soap free but nope! Its right there on the ingredient list!

Oh what a disappointment! Lucky I didn’t get this though like I said before, the smell was delicious when I took a whiff at it.

Hey Sesame

It does smell delicious in the bottle. Maybe I’ll take a huge sniff before showering instead haha

Aww sucks to you then :( Syen and I caught a whiff of this at The Body Shop when she was here in Melbourne, and I thought the body butter smelt pretty good.

Hi Tine

The lotions do smell good and the scent lasts – I just did not expect their shower gel to be less fragrant than the rest of the line.

Aww… so sorry to hear that Paris. I can only suggest using a bath lily, sponge, or pouf to use the gel. Sometimes that helps the scent come out stronger.

Hi Kahani

Perhaps I should give that a try. Or use more. Or breathe in as deeply as I can hehe…

Ah… What a disappointment yea??? HMm… I stopped using Body Shop’s products for quite a long time. It seems that their ingredients isn’t as environmentally friendly as they presented. The shower gel tends to be so drying after shower and also their body butter contains very high contents of mineral oil. They used to give you eco-friendly bags instead of plastic bags now… They even give you RM1 discount when you bring back an old bottle of i.e. a shower gel or facial wash or etc. That’s all gone now and they totally have a different concept now… Big Minus!!! Sad… :(

Hi Notcute

I remember the discounts if you brought back your old bottles. I guess with being bought over by L’oreal comes other ways of doing things. I still like Body Shop’s Lavender and Bergamot shower gels. Those only need a tiny bit to make a difference to my day.

exactly my thoughts paris!

i also used my TBS points to buy it, but I somehow felt stupid to waste the points now. No smell, not enough lather. My Shokutbutsu or Johnson baby milk bath is anytime better. Le sigh. :(

Hi Plue

Haha… I have to agree that any other shower gel beats this one – such a waste right?

I have to say that I found my experience to be quiet different. I use the bath lily and there is plenty of lather and scent. was your review based on a one time use or did this occur more than once?

Hi Mary

I used this a few times (and have been using it quite often now) but have the same result. Perhaps it works better with a puff.
