I came across the upcoming Kanebo Coffret D’or Spring 2009 collection yesterday and my eyes lit up immediately. It was a collection I had been keeping an eye out for because the Shine Accent eyeshadow palettes looked so pretty online.
Just look at them. Don’t they look lovely and shimmery and pastel – just how Spring colours usually are?
Unfortunately, I was quite bummed after I’d played around with them for a while. The texture of the eyeshadows are lovely – typical Coffret D’or – smooth, shimmery and silky. In fact, I might venture to say that they are even silkier than the 3D Lighting Eyes palette that I like. More pictures below.
However, the pigment was very sheer. Now, I love Japanese eyeshadows so I’m perfectly fine with sheer colours. Unfortunately, not even I really liked these because I found them too light. They are even more sheer than the 3D Lighting eyes. The colours looked lovely in the pan, but once swatched, didn’t show up very much except as shimmer. Also, none of the colours are really dark enough for an accent colour. Then again, the name of the collection is Shine Accent so I suppose the emphasis here is on shine.
These swatches show roughly the shimmer and colour of the Shine Accent eyeshadow palettes. I lost track halfway which colour was which (and I got bored so I stopped swatching after a while), but you can see the green and grey from SA03 at the top and the blue and brown from SA04 on the bottom left. My skintone is pretty light but even I found it hard to get the colour to show exactly as in the pan – really a pity because they do look gorgeous.
The square in the middle is a cream/gel shimmer. It reminded me of an old T’estimo palette – the cream/gel base has shimmer in it which is pretty but after a while, I quite disliked it.
There is a gel eyeliner in this collection as well as lipsticks, gloss and a blush. I didn’t have time to take pics of the other products in the collection but I’ll do that the next time I see it and if I remember.
The Coffret D’or Spring 2009 collection is expected to go on sale only at end February/early March 2009. Previous eyeshadow palettes were RM120 each. I wonder if the price will remain the same.

ah! so the colour is that sheer? a let down, really.
all the palettes are lovely, and I think palette 1 looks like what I have, same with 05, 02 i think have something like that, 04 the blue is pretty but not my kind of palette, but 03, the green is calling my name!
i need to swatch them! where did you see this? i think MV jusco don’t have them yet. i guess i’ll just settle for maquillage then…
Hi Plue, Yes I found them too sheer even for me, but the texture is gorgeous. Next time I check them out, I’ll try them on the eyes and see if I feel different. I doubt it though. I saw them in a Kanebo salon. It won’t be out till end Feb/March.
A shame the shadows are so sheer. They would have made very pretty palettes otherwise. Me being me, No. 2, 3, and 5 caught my attention in the photo.

Hi Cheryl, The palettes do look gorgeous but the sheerness gets to me. It does keep the whole look very natural and light. Perhaps Spring is about that too!
Oohh!! They are so lovely. I’m just a sucker for eyeshadow palettes. Just like you with blushes, I’m so into eyeshadows, esp those that come in palettes. Anything that comes in palettes, I just love them. I wish they aren’t so expensive so that I can buy all 5 of them. hehe!! Haven’t tried any Kanebo products. But i already have so many cosmetics. sigh!
Hey Vonvon, They do look amazing! I love Kanebo brand eyeshadows but so far Coffret D’or haven’t lived up to my high expectations.
Gosh! No thoughts at all! LOL I am useless! I’ve never seen them, touched them let alone swatch them! But base on your photos, they are indeed sheer and probably perfect for people who doesn’t like strong colors for the eye!
Hi Nikki, Yep, they would be great for those who don’t like strong eye colours but there’s a slight shimmer for definition.
and i thought dior IR sping was sheer!!! if those looked like that on you, i can just forget about it. LOL.

I was thinking of getting the green and blue ones, because they look so pretty online. I live in the Netherlands, so I don’t have access to the real thing to swatch. Your review is very helpful! Now I am reconsidering my plan, since I don’t think the eyeshadows will show any color at all once I apply them on my lids. I think I am slightly darker than you (seeing your hand on the pic above). So if the color will not show on your skin, it certainly won’t on mine
