Barbie loves Stila but do we like this?

When I saw pictures of the upcoming Stila Precious Pearl palette, I found my interest in Stila rekindled. Then, I got wind of the Barbie loves Stila collection and my first thought was “WHY STILA WHY?!”

Barbie loves Stila

I don’t think much of the colour combinations for the eye and face palettes although Pony Tail Girl Barbie’s palette looks like a workable combo; and I guess I don’t like dolls or cartoons on my makeup.

First MAC partnered with Barbie and now Stila! Right when MAC is launching the MAC-Hello Kitty collection too. Is there like some cuteness overload competition going on, or is the target market for MAC and Stila getting younger and younger… way into the Barbie set??

You know those tin cans? Stila used to make them for their counters with the old Stila girl drawings on them, and they were never for sale. It was a feather in your cap if you managed to score one or if you spent enough at a Stila counter to persuade the sales person to give you one :P They were going on ebay for hundreds at one point! Those however were whimsical and sweet. I don’t like these nor the new ones – the Stila girl is just not the same anymore.

Stila is selling each combination as a set for US$40 commencing February 2009. The sets specially sold on Sephora are already sold out so yes, there are people loving this a whole lot more than I am! There is also a Barbie talking palette ($40) in this collection. I don’t know if we are getting these (we probably would) but expect it to cost RM200 and up. Oh and did I mention they are limited edition?

Now, tell me – what do you think of this Stila-Barbie collection? You already know my thoughts :P

Stay beautiful,

I don’t mind whatever cartoon or even japanese Anime they put on my make up, as long as the quality and color combination is good. I just find it weird though that after MAC, Stila would use the same! Barbie, I know their packaging is different but why the same one? Well just my opinion.

They could go for..hmm….The chipmunks, winnie the pooh and friends..lol you got my drift :D Great weekend PB!

I’m not a fan either – although when I heard it sold out on Sephora my first thought was “why didn’t I buy them?”, lol. I bet these ones will pop up on eBay too at exorbitant prices. Still I think they could’ve done the design a lot better. My first impression of these were that they look rather ghetto…

Hey blu3, I do agree that they could have done something like a Stila girl Barbie – that would fit Stila’s image more I feel. This has a more MAC feel to it. But yes expect prices to soar on ebay.

Yup I’ve seen them! LOL But we don’t have Too faced down here in PI as you know :) Do you gals have it there?

I’ll wait for your upcoming post :)

Hey plue, Yep I was also wondering why Stila went with Barbie as well and the Hello Kitty was just too far out for me LOL

Little girls everywhere are gonna start makeup way earlier than they are allowed to!

Hiya Giddy Tigress, Little girls should stay little girls – enough time to wear makeup when they grow up right?

I prefer the packaging of MAC Barbie collection. These ones look like they’re for little girls.

Hey Amanda, I have to agree. They could have done something better with the packaging.

No, good Lord, no!! Why can’t people just keep things the way they are. Stila’s always been associated with pretty girly makeup, and now it’s overly sickly cutesy and just …. *bleugh*

Hi Tine, Yes Stila was always cute but adult and now its just kiddy cute. Sigh…

Hi Akiki, heh… I guess you can’t beat that for cartoon factor.

not loving this, i think it’s a disaster lol :P

i think it’s quite likely lol

Hi Jeng, Someone already did. MAC did with their lip conditioners in a pot a while ago and Paul and Joe also had a disney inspired collection. Those two were super cute!

this is just soooo…….”cheap” “kid’s toys” looking.

when i first saw it in other site, i was like ” you must be kidding me”. and i would have to give it to MAC…their marketing concept and skill is way ahead of Barbie love Stila…

and disney character, i think i saw MAC launched that collection before…for lip gloss it think, with character from Little Mermaid..

Hi shinokay, yes MAC had a disney lip conditioner collection with some cute cartoons. I remember Bambi and Thumper!

Hey PB, I’m reading this real late as I’ve just returned from a mini break :-)

I think I’m the only Barbie fan here–grew up with it! I think I owned about 4-5 of em dolls :-)
I loved how Barbie was always the essence of high fashion, she was never ever about being cute. It was always Barbie, the cutting edge, modern chick.
So makeup and Barbie to me, makes sense.
But judging from these pics, I’m quite disappointed with the packaging and the colours. They don’t appear to be stylish enough. I think when MAC did the tie up with Barbie, it was way more successful.

Hey Monstro, Yeah I think whats turning a lot of people off is not the fact of barbie and makeup but Stila’s representation of their barbie line which just doesn’t go with the image. Mac was certainly better.

I agree, Why Stila Why?

are they running out of ideas to keep their market? especially since this “idea” was already launch by Mac (Mac & Barbie). To use after Mac is like.. going after your neighbour’s husband. Oh sorry about the pun..getting a bit upset over Stila in Msia.
