I walked past the Kate Spade store at The Gardens MidValley one day and had to double back to make sure I saw correctly. Yes, I did and yes, Kate Spade has finally opened a store here in Malaysia.
Kate Spade was famous for her colourful nylon bags which was all the rage during the 90’s, especially for the Kate Spade diaper bags. Till today, I associate Kate Spade with diaper bags and expensive ones at that! Being really into bags, I used to look at them online and in Singapore. The nylon ones don’t attract me much I have to say. Be it Kate Spade or Prada nylon bags don’t feel longlasting to me and so I steer clear of them. Besides, I always feel that paying over a thousand Ringgit for nylon or hundreds of dollars for nylon is mind boggling.
However, I rather like the leather bags from Kate Spade. The leather feels nice and the bags aren’t super heavy. I bought a Kate Spade leather bag from Singapore a couple of years ago.

It was at a heavy discount so I’d say it was a decent mid 3 digit price (RM) and it looked classic which is what matters to me. I liked how the inside of the bag had these surprisingly cheery polka dot fabric and the rope strap really called my name. I still carry it from time to time.
Here are some other bag designs from Kate Spade.

That green is signature Kate Spade green and I really like it! However, prices in store are upwards of RM1000 a leather bag so my wallet will thank me NOT to look for now. In Malaysia, Kate Spade is presently at The Gardens at MidValley.

Love the mock croc with metal chain strap. Somehow, the metal chain straps call out to me a lot. Must be that insatiable longing for the Chanel 2.55 (husband refers to it as Chanel 3.142….)
Me to PB, if I buy a bit pricey bag, I would go for leather
LOL your wallet is definitely thanking yoU
I love KateSpade too! Yay!
I hope they end up having awesome sales like in SG.
Also bought a boxy piece some years back for 80% off–watta deal!
Love the leather and the quality!
The green one looks really nice! Lol… Do they have it in dark red?
@geekchic: Hahaha, Chanel Pi :p
I love the Kelly bags by Kate Spade. I saw it in Japan, and boy, was it hard for my friends to drag me out of the store or what :p
i can’t believe you didn’t’ know kate spade is here1 I nearly bought the same bag as yours!!! Luckily I didn’t as there was no discount when i visited the store. grrr… i need a white bag though. hahahahaha i am such a bag whore. i should have do more bag reviews but i am bad at them so…
good score. consider it as your birthday gift eh? i know you normally buy a bag for each birthday.
@geekchic : I’m a sucker for metal straps too. I saw someone carrying the Chanel 2.55 to a dinner yesterday. Too full restraint not to go up and drool over it
@Nikki: Yep! Leather lasts way longer.
@Monstro: Ooh 80% off is a super bargain! I wonder if we’ll see the likes of it here
@Ms. Blacklace : I reckon they do. That green is their signature colour though.
@Tine: Haha I’d probably be like you!
@jojoba: I haven’t been out lately. I buy myself a nice gift but not always a bag
The bag is from a couple of years ago actually. This year’s gift broke my bank but I’m loving it to death.
my bad. i was rushing out when i spotted your post and scanned though. not reading it properly and htought this was the bad i saw in the store. i saw a beigy whitish bag that i really liked but DH was not happy at me looking at yet another bag. told you that i am mad ta bags but never bother the trouble to see them through properly. geez. no ownder DH said that i should be tied down from buying any more bags till i am 70! (this was what he said when i was looking a white dior bag. swear that i didn’t want that bag… i remeber it was big…)
@jojoba : No worries. I haven’t really stepped into the store. Prices make me cautious
