Soapy Pandan Mint Handmade Soap

On my last visit to the Tiny Tapir headquarters during their open day, I was intrigued by a selection of handmade soaps for sale under the brand name – Soapy. As with all things sold by Tiny Tapir, the product is natural and eco-friendly. Best of all, Soapy is made right here in Malaysia!

Soapy handmade soap pandan mint

I bought a small piece to try in Pandan Mint. The soap is handmade and natural with glycerin as its main ingredient. There are many flavours available but I opted for the soap infused with pandan (screwpine) and peppermint to refresh and invigorate.

When used in the shower, I found that the soap lathered up very easily. Just a few rubs between your wet palms will create a rich lather. The smell of pandan for those who are familiar with it, is not only refreshing but delicious too! The peppermint was very subtle but it left a very faint tingling cool feel on the skin. Invigorating indeed! The nice thing is that the skin does not feel dry after showering.

I bought a little bar for RM2 to test and I think I’m going back for the full sized version (100g) which retails for RM13 each – pricey for a bar of soap but not pricey when compared to shower creams or gels that finish up faster. The little bar of Soapy soap I bought lasted quite long with regular use – approx 3 weeks. Best of all, it makes a perfect travel partner because it is a little bar of soap and therefore not subject to the 100ml rule on airlines! :) One little bar is enough to last you a few trips – just leave it to dry overnight before packing it away; and the Pandan Mint is lovely and refreshing after a long day of travel or walking. I would love it even better if they could be like Lush and create a solid shampoo – that’ll take care of my packing woes for good!

Here are the ingredients in this Soapy soap : Sunflower Oil, Coconut Oil, Pandan Juice, Palm Oil, Castor Oil, Sweet Orange Essential Oil, Peppermint Essential Oil

Interesting…I am using shower creams/gels too and you’re right about them being used up so fast! And regular soaps dry my skin. I guess I have to keep these in mind just looking at the ingredients, they must be good

Hello paris :) Your wishes have been answered – there’s a new Hair Shop in Pavilion that sells shampoo bars, perfect for travelling with! And it’s a local brand as well :D
I first read about it on So Loverly….

Hey Paris, thanks for featuring one of our products again :) – we love the soapy soaps, the Johore lady who makes them is fantastic. Honestly it’s a great soap even for my dry skin, leaves me moisturized … unlike Lush, I have a ton of their soap someone bought me as a gift from overseas, but the soap leaves me needing to moisturize :(

Dylis of Soapy Soaps did think of doing shampoo bars, but you know, I’ve tried a few types years ago in Hong Kong and I’ve never found one that left my hair nice – i mean they all seem really drying for hair. There is one of the flavors of Soapy Soap that is suitable for hair though…

Did you think of using the Paul Koh NY silicone travel bottles for your shampoo + conditioner? That’s what I do, and they are exactly the right size to take on the plane.

ah pandan. the only plants i keep is pandan! can keep the roaches away.
but one thing about soap is, i find it very hard to store them. i have never ever finished a bar of soup no matter how much i like the scent. and i don’t like how it looks like after being wet n soaked, and deformed :(

I wanted to Cocoa Butter one but when I came across Tiny Tapir at a bazaar, they didn’t have it for sale. I e-mailed Soapy to inquire about a soap set or something but they never replied me :( I’ve been very tempted with these soaps!

Made in M’sia? Interesting. But I can’t imagine bathing in Pandan. I’m thinking pandan cake. :p

@Penelope : It reminds me of cake really. But the soap isn’t like cake :)

@Tiny Tapir:I tried travelling with soap and found it easier than liquids. I agree solid shampoo isn’t gret for the hair but its easy to travel with. I’ll check out the airplane containers next time.

@prettybeautiful : I have a metal soap dish in my bathroom and it dries up everyday so it doesn’t get all deformed :)

@Connie: I have never dealt with Soapy but the ladies at Tiny Tapir are great :)

@Monstro: They are near KLCC. There’s a map on their site.

metal soap dish dries up faster compared to those plastic container? i was using the rice soap for face, then half way through it the soap became ugly and deformed…..so…eventually i just disposed it. bah…

@beetrice : *giggles* I’m guilty of the soap but not the Rootote I’m sure! ;)

@Alice: They only stock it in store I believe. Why not drop in? You might end up picking up more than just the soap.

@prettybeautiful: I usually hate deformed soaps too but I seem to have no problems thus far. Only when it gets thin do I have a problem with it falling through the mesh.

@Connie : I only saw the Pandan Mint trial sizes so I’m not sure if they have the others. Do drop by – they are nice to deal with.

@Connie : They are now open Monday-Saturday 11am-6pm. I guess they haven’t updated their site. Try giving them a call – someone should be there.
