Benefit Thrrrob face powder review

Mar 21, 2008

I read about Benefit Cosmetics launching Thrrrob face powder some time in January. I finally got to see this face powder in person yesterday at the Benefit Cosmetics counter in Parkson at KLCC.

My verdict is that I did not like Thrrrob at all. I still don’t get the name - why not Benefit Throb?

This is being sold as a face powder not a blush. Honestly, I cannot see anyone wanting to use this powder all over the face because it is sparkly. There is lots of glitter in it and the texture is gritty. So not like Dandelion which is relatively finely milled.

The color of Thrrob in real life is much lighter than what you see in the pictures online. It is a very pale cool pink with glitter and shows up even less than Dandelion. If you found that Dandelion was too light for you, skip Thrrob. Dandelion shows up quite nicely on me as a light pink blush. I can imagine that Thrrob will show up as light pink with sparkles.

I tried swiping the colour with my fingers but it barely showed up on the back of my hand. The sales assistant told me that it was meant to be applied over foundation. To me, that defeats the whole purpose because not everyone likes to apply foundation. I sometimes like to just have loose powder on and a blush and no blush should ever have to be made to be applied over foundation! She also told me that she was wearing it at that moment and I saw that it was a light pink on her medium tone skin. I cannot imagine anyone wearing Thrrrob over their whole face - it would be too pink.

I’m not overly fussed over the cardboard packaging because I own Dandelion and Georgia but somehow, the packaging of Thrrob bugged me. Maybe because its dark, scuffed edges show up more. Either way, I felt it looked cheap.

My advise for anyone lusting after Benefit’s Thrrrob face powder is to check it out in real life. You might like it or you might be like me and hate it. But if you never see it you’ll never know! Thrrrob retails at RM129 in Malaysia and US$28 online.

That’s too bad about it, it looked so pretty in pics.

i know exactly what u mean.
reminds me of Freeform iridescent powder from Mac Patternmaker collection.
Looks pink, looks nice and shimmery, but when it goes on to the face there’s no colour, only chunky glitter! *think disco ball..

Hmm…I would beg to differ, in fact. It shows up very nicely on my skin. Granted I have to load it on for the colour to show but when it does show, it shows up very prettily. As for the sparkles/glitter, you can see it very clearly in the box but it’s not visible at all on my skin.

I was away for the weekend at a B&B and was deciding if i wanted this or Dandelion, I tossed this in simply because my Dandelion is crushed to a million pieces for me to finish using it up. Thrrrob doesn’t show up on pics at all but I get a very pretty flush in real life.

Dandelion, on the other hand, I only need much less than Thrrrob to show.

I disagree with the SA that you need to apply it over foundation. I use it on my bare skin and I lvoe it the way it is. While we’re on that note, I dislike most of the Malaysian Benefit SAs I’ve met.

Like foundations, blushers/face powders might suit one but not another because of your skintone, colour, etc.

I’ve been meaning to try Georgia but pinks have always worked well on me and I’m reluctant to switch.

So sorry it didn’t work on you.

Jojoba: I guess we are of a same mind

Monstro: Do check it out in person it might work for you!

gold.vanity: I guess we have the same thoughts on this! Thanks for your comment.

Geekchic: I was hoping you’d leave a comment! :) I’m glad to read your thoughts on it. I guess Thrrob would work for someone for whom pink is a good blush color. I somehow can’t pull off pinks that well although Dandelion works for me. And I think that SA was on crack or something :P btw, Georgia is ♥ for me!

I think I’m going to check out Thrrrob (dang, that was difficult to type) this week. I have Dandelion (I heart this one :P) and Georgia (haven’t really given this one a go yet; it was a gift from my aunt), so I’m waiting to try this one out.

Let’s see what the SAs tell me about this one ;)

I’m just gonna top up on Benetint. Can’t live without it. Too bad I won’t have a chance to try Throb or Dandelion yet. I have 3 pots/pans of blusher to finish. Hahaha. I might just try Throb when Nars finish since pink shows up good on my skin as well.

Tine: Do let us know how you find Thrrrob.

S-kay: I still haven’t tried Benetint. But I suppose if Benetint and pinks work for you then maybe Thrrob would too.

Thrrrob is the best!!! I have 2 blushes from Clinique, 1 from Body shop and 1 from Boots No 7 and i don’t use them anymore (I wish i find about Thrrrob earlier). I only use Thrrrob now.I feel so pretty wearing it!
