Has anyone undergone teeth whitening?

Nov 5, 2007

A smile is worth a thousand words so goes a famous quote. I couldn’t agree more.

I count myself fortunate in that I did not have to undergo the trauma of wearing braces on my teeth because my teeth are relatively even. When I was younger, I did mention to my then dentist if I should wear braces because I had a tooth that was out of alignment and he told me it was unnecessary. So whilst my teeth are even, they aren’t perfect.

Be that as it may, I was not blessed with bright white teeth so I am now contemplating under going teeth whitening. My regular dentist doesn’t seem to be much of an advocate of the whitening process even if they do it at their dental surgery. I guess they arenâ’t like the santa barbara cosmetic dentist which specialise in the cosmetic elements of dentistry - teeth whitening, porcelain veneers and the like - everything to help give you that perfect smile. Their plush offices don’t even look like a dental clinic but more like a resort home. We don’t seem to have such similar cosmetic dentists here or maybe we do and I’m looking in all the wrong places.

Has anyone had cosmetic dental work done? Has anyone undergone the teeth whitening process and what have you got to say about it? Would you recommend it?

Have you heard of Crest Whitestrips? http://www.whitestrips.com/en_US/home.jsp

I tried it out a few years ago when I was living in the US and got amazing results which lasted for a fairly long time.

Sadly it’s not available in this part of the world but you can get it from sites like eBay.

    Think it’s worth checking out.

PB says: Yes I’ve heard of it. I guess I’ll have to look online. Thanks.

I tried it a while back. Its expensive and the price is not worth it. I think if you have ok teeth it might work but if the color is really yellow it won’t last long maybe 3 months. Then slowly you can’t tell the difference.

PB says: Thanks for the feedback! I’ll rethink this then.

Hi, I am a dentist wife and I have tried three whitening systems we have in off, smile, bright smile and zoom. They are fair to good. We currently use polo which again involves a laser and you may experience some sensitivity….but NOTHING compared to zoom and bright smile. Use a toothpaste that is heavy in flouride at least one week prior and you should have no problem. We currently are having a xmas special for polo for$300.00–it is normally $600.00. The take home kits where the dentist makes an impression of your mouth and sends you home with several syringes(approximately $150.00-$200.00 here) do work but you must be diligent in your usage…you can get “toliet bowl” white teeth with polo and the take home if you stick to it….home care is the requirement not an option with the take home.
Also drinking any colored liquid, coffee, tea, red wine….as silly as it sounds….through a straw…the liquid will by pass your teeth and allow your bleaching to last twice as long.
    hope this helps

I have. My dentist friend did it for me. How well it works depends on the color/opacity of your teeth. If your teeth are naturally yellow, it works well, but if your teeth are stained yellow, your results may vary.
