I previously wrote about my regular visits to the Kanebo International Salon for my facials and Tine (who also goes to Kanebo) asked me to review them so I shall.
I first visited the Kanebo International Salon in Bangsar a couple of years back, when I came across a promotion in the newspapers for their facials. Since then, they are my regular facial salon.
This is what I like about going to the Kanebo Salon:
- The staff are friendly. The outfit in Bangsar is quite small. They have about 3 facial treatment rooms and 2 massage/spa rooms. There aren’t many staff so its easy to identify and build up a rapport with the girls. I’ve never had a facial at Starhill Gallery but I have visited the salon and the friendliness factor is also there. The Starhill salon is a lot larger so it can accommodate more customers.
- They don’t push products or services. It’s a fact that the staff get commissions from sale of products and services. However, from my experience, I’ve never been bugged or pressured to purchase anything that I don’t want or need at that time. They may tell you about a new product or a product which they think might be useful for you, but they don’t push you into buying it.
- The staff are knowledgeable about the products. They sell skincare products and T’estimo makeup (now Coffret D’or) at the salon. I find that whilst they may be rather less knowledgeable than I am when it comes to the makeup, their knowledge of the skincare range is quite exemplary. They are able to explain the use and benefits of each product which is helpful.
- The salon atmosphere is comfortable. The salons are quiet and elegant with background music. When I get there, my file is ready and my room is usually ready and waiting. I am served a cold peach tea with some dried apricot and at the end of the treatment, I’m served hot ginger tea. The rooms are quiet and comfortable, with dim lights and soft music. The salon at Starhill is very nice. They are supposed to be the first 6 star salon in the country.
- The treatments are relaxing. There is no unnecessary chatter from the facialist unless you ask them about the products being used. The treatments start with you getting changed into a tube gown. Then you are given a brief backrub before the facial treatment starts. The whole process is very soothing and its quite common to fall asleep. I always do. In fact, its encouraged.
The best thing of course, is that the treatments work for me. My skin always looks better for days after I go for a facial. They don’t usually do extractions unless you ask for it or unless your skin looks bad. Also, they usually trim my eyebrows which is nice. Now, my whole family and some friends go there and they all love it.
The prices of the facial treatments are rather expensive, I’d admit. Prices of facials range from RM98 to RM348 per treatment. However, as we purchase facial packages, which sometimes come with one or two freebies thrown in, the cost works out more affordable for the once a month luxury.
Kanebo salons also have body treatments. I personally recommend getting a massage from “Jenny” at the Kanebo salon in Bangsar. She is very good if you have stiff muscles as she has an uncanny ability to feel out and work out every kink in your muscles.
Here are the contact numbers of the Kanebo International salons in Malaysia:
Bangsar – 03-2292 1218
Starhill Gallery – 03-2144 1218
Gurney Plaza – 04-227 7618
I liked the Silk Extract Collagen Hydra-Energylift Treatment which usually retails for RM348 for 90 minutes. This facial uses a skin lifting machine and the Kanebo silk cream and silk powder that usually retail for over RM700 for a set. The skin feels smooth and hydrated for days after the treatment. This was the last set of treatments I used and I found it very good for my skin.
For acne prone or oily skin with clogged pores, you may be recommended the Deep Purifying Facial Treatment (usual RM128) where they help extract pimples and clogged pores. Regular treatments do help reduce problems with their skin as someone I know has found.
Note: Previous Promotion is over
Do give the Kanebo salons a try. I enjoy my experience there every time.

Thanks for the 50% offer! Totally tempting. BTW, do they provide facials for men too?
PB says: You’re welcome and yes they do men facials too but its advisable for the men to go along with their women friends else they may get shut out because they want to make women feel comfortable about being in the salon.
That is so so so tempting! Howzabout that – reading My Women Stuff pays off! But, I’m a lil’ cash strapped this month and next. Maybe before the offer expires in October!
PB says: Yes it pays to be loyal lol… get it on your credit card before it rolls over in Oct – that way you could end up paying only in Dec!
I wish I lived in Malaysia just to go to this salon! It sounds wonderful! Have any suggestions in the SAn Diego, CA area?
PB says: Well, now you know where to go should you ever come to Malaysia!
I’m sorry I’m not familiar with the CA area. Maybe someone else could help?
Hear! Hear! Thanks for doing a review on this. I’ll do one for the one in Penang. I love Kanebo salons; so clean, so professional, so NOT irritating :p
PB says: Hear hear! I’ve never been to the one in Penang so it’ll be nice to read about it
WOW! awesome! Thanks for the 50% off! I gotta try it before it expires. Probably some time next month, too many things to pay off this month.
PB says: Yes yes! Do try it and tell your friends too! 50% off doesn’t come by often
I went to try the facial at Starhill this afternoon. Nice and clean environment and the staff are friendly. My facialist explains each step and the product used during the facial. I quite like the experience
PB says: I’m happy you enjoyed the experience! Did you get the 50% off?
Yup..I got the 50% off. Thanks so much!
PB says: That’s good to know!
Hello
Firstly, thank you for your review. Your description of the facials sounded fantastic and the offer too, so my friend and I popped by Starhill to check it out.
However, I was told that the 50% discount only applied to facials priced RM198 above, so I didn’t try it as my friend wasn’t too keen on the discounted facial treatments. We would like to know though if that was the agreed terms with Kanebo?
You were right about the service though, it was impeccable. I plan to go back myself to try out the facial, so thanks again
PB says: I will be checking this up for you. I’m sorry for the inconvenience! p/s will you (or anyone who knows you) please get in touch with me via email regarding this? Thanks!
I am a regular at Kanebo Bangsar for the past 3 years. All I can say that is although the price is discounted (whether it is a 50% or so) KANEBO will NOT discount on their services and products. I have also switched all my facial products from SKII to Kanebo. Not just simply because they are cheaper, they actually work on me!
While you are at Kanebo, please see Jane, she is wonderful beautician! And Janet, she is a great masseuse.
hello…i tried their treatment before…but i want to enjoy the cheaper price…do you think they are flexible to gimme discount eventhough its second time there lohh????
PB says: I’m not sure about that. Maybe you can call them and ask? I only know its for first timers.
Hi Charmaine,
Actually I went to their saloon several times. The saloon actually from time to time got do some promotion for their facial packages. E.g lately for last month ALL their facial packages are having offer price become RM88 only (Penang side). Even the package RM348 facial package also have offer price beome RM88! Sometimes they also have promotion like buy 1 facial package free 1 facial package.
But you have to follow up their saloon news from time to time. I know because my frien working there. So whenever they have promotion, she will call me. Maybe you can ask the beuticians there to update you whenever there is any promotion for their package.
Thanks for the recommendation. I am in Penang and i went to Kanebo Salon at Gurney Plaza. I did the Silk Extract treatment and i was totally amazed at the outcomes. My face is hydrated for almost 1 week after the treatment.
I am wondering do you know what made the skin hydrated? is it the masks? or the silk lotion?
Anyway, Do you know what mask they used during the treatment? I didn’t ask as i was half dozing off.
PB says: I’m glad you enjoyed it. I think its a combination of the masks used and the silk cream which helps with the hydration. I’m not sure what masks are used though you could ask them. I don’t know about the Penang branch but the girls in Bangsar are usually quite friendly.
