The secret to good eye makeup

If you have always wondered how some people get their eye makeup looking so smooth and gorgeous on their eyes, here’s the secret.

Blend. Blend. Blend.

Of course, colour choice is important, but I’ve seen many people just slap the colour on without blending them properly. When you blend, the colour merges and forms a new colour all on its own. It adds definition and depth and it makes the eye makeup look seamless.

There are 2 ways you can do this blending:

  1. Use a blending brush. These eye brushes are usually soft and fluffy and you use them to buff the colours together after applying.
  2. Use your finger. The oils and heat from your fingers help colours to blend in with each other. Just use a light smudging motion.

There are also 2 ways in which you can apply your eyeshadows so the blending process is made easier. Just use whichever you find easiest:

  1. Light colour first then dark. If you apply the light colour first, then the dark, you can smudge the dark colour lightly where it meets the light colour, so you don’t get an obvious demarcation.
  2. Dark colour first then light. You apply the darker colour in the crease or near the lash line first, then apply the light colour on the lid and over the dark colour, smudging it to blend. I use this method myself as I find it easier to blend the colours this way, and it tones down the darker shade, especially during the day.

So remember this mantra the next time you do your eye makeup:

Blend, blend, blend!
