Are SLR cameras a hassle?

I used to know someone who likes playing around with cameras. In the space of 2 years, he bought 2 SLR cameras, the last being a Nikon D80. I played around with it for a bit and was very impressed with it. I was so impressed that I wanted to buy one myself. However, I usually use my cameras for taking pictures of products for reviews, or just for point and shoot pictures, on holidays etc. For this, I have found that a compact camera does the trick. Also, I am not sure I want to be lugging around a bulky SLR on my holidays even if it could possibly take much better pictures. It’ll be another thing to have to watch out for. Yet, I am taken by the professional look of an SLR camera. Do you own an SLR camera and do you find it a hassle on holidays? You can tell I still haven’t bought my replacement camera yet.

Top Monkey owns one. If you’re like me, just taking photies for holidays and some shots for the blog, I’d say an SLR is too much of a hassle. But if you’re like him and adore photography and fiddling with Photoshop and upgrading lenses, then the SLRs are worth it. He doesn’t mind lugging it around on holidays, but for me it’s too heavy and bulky esp since all I want is to point and shoot. Really depends on what you want to use it for.

I will only go for SLR if I am a Pro coz it does takes quite a lot of effort to adjust the lens and setting to get a flawless pix. SLR camera need maintainance and lots of practice to become a Pro.
