I’m Not a Plastic Bag spotted!

I spotted this today while walking through Petaling Street, our version of Chinatown. There were rows and rows of stalls selling the infamous “I’m Not A Plastic Bag” bag by Anya Hindmarch, which incidentally is sold out worldwide. If Anya Hindmarch had done their market research and honestly and truly wanted to save the environment, they should have just made more for the masses. Then again, I suppose its a marketing ploy to create demand for the bag.

I’ve never seen the real thing up close so I have no idea what to expect of the bag. I honestly thought that it was pretty decent for a casual canvas bag that you can tote around town for the hell of it. Ok, so maybe not with the now infamous words printed on it. Out of curiousity, I stopped by a stall to ask how much they were selling the bag for.

The answer? RM95 was the first quote I got. WTF?! The original bag was selling for only RM55! His reason: Its sold out in the stores. Sucks to him!

The rest of the quotes ranged from RM50-60 max. All in all, very expensive for a knockoff of a RM55 bag! Ironically, I enquired as to the price of a Coach bag hanging at the stall, and was told it was RM55. That one retails for 4 digits in the store so is a decent knock off price. But to pay more than retail for a knockoff is in one word - DUMB! Sorry to anyone who resorted to doing this.

Bobbi Brown collections are usually blah to me. But this new Fall 2007 collection of Metallics eyeshadow trios have my heart getting all a-flutter. Shimmer isn’t usually advocated by Bobbi Brown so I was very surprised to see this collection.

I’d love to check these out at the counter when they get here… eventually. I’ll report back when I do.

Review: Skincare: The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil Facial Wash

During the last Body Shop sale, I picked up the Tea Tree Oil Facial Wash for a song. I’d used the Tea Tree Oil before, but never the facial wash.

It lay forgotten in my stash until a week ago when my usual cleanser had run out. So, I thought to give it a shot.

It comes in a recyclable bottle and is of a gel texture which has a green tint to it. The smell is the sharp smell of tea tree oil which is very distinctive. Some people don’t like it, but I don’t mind it.

The thing about this is that it lathers up very easily. So easily in fact that there is a tendency to over pour the gel into your palm. However, as it comes in a plastic bottle with a flip top cap and a small hole in the cap, its relatively easy to control the outflow.

Tea Tree oil works great to treat pimples and spots and is supposed to have antibacterial properties. That is good news because I’m presently nursing a bit of a breakout and as it doesn’t seem to be getting worse, maybe this cleanser is helping control it.

It seems to clean well but I only use it in the morning so there isn’t very much dirt on my face to measure its cleansing properties by. My face does not feel tight after cleansing which is good news.

I cannot remember the actual price, sorry. It might be RM25 or so for 250 ml. As you don’t use very much at all, I think its decently priced as it feels more gentle on the skin than cream cleansers do.

Pros: Fresh scent, light texture, lathers easily, good for problem skin

Cons: Might be considered pricey for some

Zip it up!

pickpocket

I have a bad habit that I have noticed, many women share.

I tend not to zip up my handbag after I have taken things out from it. These aren’t handbags without zips. They have zips - I just tend to forget to zip them back up.

Its a bad habit I’ve been trying to kick for a long time. Granted, I take extra care with my belongings and I hold my bag close to my body. But you just never know what undesirable thing might happen one day.

I was prompted to write this because I just noticed again how careless I am (although I am usually very careful) this morning when I alighted from my car. My bag was gaping wide because I’d just put my keys into it and other than the fact everything inside could drop out if I were to accidentally tip the bag over, I was opening myself to being pickpocketed.

I’ve noticed that this is common among many women, many of whom think that by having a hand-held bag, the chances of things getting stolen is less. If I can see the wallet and mobile phone in their bags, within easy reach especially while standing in a queue, I’m sure pickpockets can too.

This is a public service warning from Paris Beaverbanks! :)
