This is a review of the Lunasol Skin Modelling Eyeshadow quad. It was part of Lunasol’s Sping 2007 collection. Lunasol is a department store brand under the Kanebo umbrella, and it is priced in the medium-high end spectrum. It is presently found in some countries in Asia – Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan and now, Malaysia.
I got the Skin Modelling eyeshadow quad in EX-3 – Pink Beige and this is my review.
These are the colours in the quad (clockwise):
Shimmery White – highlighter shade. Shimmer.
Shimmery Pink – light pink with shimmer
Shimmery Peach – peach with shimmer
Shimmery Brown – brown with shimmer.
This is, as the name suggests, a pink quad. I’m not usually very good with pink shades on the eyes, I’ll be the first to admit. At best, I look like I just cried a bucket of tears and at worst, I look like a rabid rabbit.
However, I was taken in by this quad because when I swiped the colours on the back of my hand, I did not see the pink jumping out at me. It looked sheer yet sparkly. So, I got it.
The texture of these eyeshadows are excellant. They are smooth to the touch and apply like a dream. The powders are so fine that you don’t even feel it at all beneath your fingers and you don’t have powdery lids after applying it.
The Peach is supposed to be the colour shade with the pink and white being the highlighter and accent shades. However, I found that the pink could also be used as a colour shade for me, paired with just the white, and a dark liner to finish the look. Because my lid area is a bit small, piling on too many colours makes it all look muddy. The brown shade is a bit too light for a liner for me, but it does serve as a crease shade for definition. I still use another liner after everything. In fact, I would probably try the peach and brown as a combination one day for a neutral look.
I test drove this palette on a hot day when I was doing a lot of running around outside. No fading, no streaking. It stayed put the whole time. My eyelid area looked shimmery, but not over the top shimmery. Its shimmer you can wear to work without looking like you are going to a party after that.
It made me look awake which is great as I haven’t been having enough sleep lately. The pink actually helped with the awake look instead of being the other way around. I was impressed. I worked this for a neutral look. Its not dark enough to make it dramatic. No matter how you apply it, its just meant for a day look – an awake fairy look. Since it was released for spring, the colours are less intense as spring is usually for the light pastels.
Some people might not like the fact that the shadows are on the sheer side. I do however, as it allows room for error and it doesn’t create the impression of makeup piled on for accent, but rather, makeup put on to enhance.
The price however, is a tad prohibitive – RM160 for the palette. If you consider you are getting 4 eyeshadows in a metal case with 2 applicators that actually work, then its actually a pretty good deal. There are other colours available but this one attracted me most.
Will I get others? Maybe. The Fall collection from last year looked good. The colours were darker and more jewel toned. However, I’m moving away from intense colours to neutrals so maybe they won’t attract me so much now. Do I recommend it? Yes. But only if you like sheerer shimmery shades.
Pros: Sheer, Shimmery, Smooth texture, applicators are good
Cons: Expensive, Sheer

I kinda like it but I’m stopping myself from buying anything anymore without an income 😛 Another plus point for this palette would be its applicators, or types that are bundled with: Sponge applicator, eyeshadow brush as well as a fine sponge tip for lining. Would suit all sorts of users. Not many applicators come with a brush, this is new to me 🙂
PB says: Yep. The applicators work well, not like some other brands. I’ve found that Japanese brands tend to have better quality applicators, sponge or otherwise.
