I ALWAYS use my fingers to apply my eye makeup, and I am constantly getting compliments on my ability to blend colors. It also prevents the flecks of eyeshadow from landing around your outer eye area, which you would have to remove with makeup remover or soap and water. Your fingers will definitely retain more of the color than will often show up on your eyes, but it's well worth it when it comes to the blending and control over exactly where the makeup ends up on your eyes!

I prefer brushes though my fingers come in handy when I forget them! It's messy getting those fingers dirty when I'm outside the house, know what I mean? So I tend to bring my big brush whenever I travel, my eyebrow shaper being the most important :)
